Hi, I am new to real estate and getting started in Virginia and North Carolina as an investor. I got started naturally by renting out my home in Raleigh, NC when I moved to Virginia last year and just recently purchased a duplex in Danville, VA. I am highly motivated and looking to build a portfolio in long term rentals. I am currently working on building capital and I'm super interested in the BRRR strategy. My 10 year goal is to own and operate 120 long term rentals. I am looking to learn as much as I can from BP and connect with professionals. I also work full time as a project manager in commercial concrete construction. Please let me know if I can help if you are building or developing in VA/NC.
As you begin expanding your real estate portfolio, one of the smartest moves you can make is developing a solid, forward-thinking asset protection plan.
While real estate investing can be highly rewarding, it also comes with certain risks, such as lawsuits, liability claims, and unexpected creditor issues. Without proper safeguards, your assets could be left exposed. By putting the right legal and financial structures in place, you can help protect your personal wealth, minimize litigation risks, and limit creditor access. These protections often give you greater leverage in legal or financial negotiations, too.
To manage these challenges effectively, it’s crucial to build a reliable team of professionals. This typically includes a tax advisor with real estate expertise and an asset protection attorney who understands your specific goals and risk tolerance. The right guidance can help you structure your investments efficiently, saving time, stress, and money as your portfolio grows.
Smart investing isn’t just about acquiring the right properties, it’s also about safeguarding what you’ve built. Here’s to your continued success, security, and peace of mind on your investment journey!

Hi Tyler,
Welcome to BiggerPockets! It sounds like you’ve already taken some great first steps with your Raleigh rental and Danville duplex. Your 10-year goal of 120 long-term rentals is ambitious—love the vision!
I'd be happy to connect and share insights on BRRR strategies and local markets in VA/NC. Also, your background in commercial concrete could be valuable for anyone doing rehab or development in the area.
Looking forward to networking and learning together!

Howdy, Tyler. Are you looking to expand into your own construction projects, and if so, what types: MFH, residential subdivisions, retail, or other commercial?
Ever considered NNN commercial rentals? With these, the commercial tenants cover essentially all operation costs (eg, utilities). They can sometimes be a premium, but can also be a steady cashflow, while also being somewhat low impact.
