Hello Bigger Pockets
Just popping in to introduce myself and hopefully meet some new people.
My name is Michael Perry. I'm 45 years old with 4 children. I'm a superintendent of a construction company in the Chicagoland area and have been a licensed Real Estate Agent in Illinois and Indiana since 2018.
Life doesn't always go the way you want it to and we are forced to evaluate and make changes whether we want to or not. I'm 10 years from a full retiremnet with the Laborers Union and realizing that my pension will never get me by when the time comes.
I've been reading books for the past year on real estate investing and the last book was by Brandon Turner, Rental Property Investing, which has led me to this Bigger Pockets forum.
I'm really looking forward to meeting some experienced investors on Bigger Pockets and will be soaking up as much information as I can to obtain my first investment property.
Welcome to BiggerPockets, @Michael W Perry. Your construction background will definitely help you along the way and will give you a big advantage as you get started. It’s great that you’re thinking ahead and taking action now. I’m excited to see your journey unfold, and always happy to help however I can.

Michael, welcome. You bring a strong foundation with your construction background and real estate licensing which will serve you well as you transition into investing. It is smart to be evaluating long-term income now rather than later. You are in the right place. Stay focused, ask questions and leverage your experience as you work toward that first investment.

Read books and buy real estate. Use your knowledge in construction to help with rehabs and repairs and learn property management as you go. Definitely read Brandon’s book on “Managing Rental Properties” next. Good luck
