While I'm no stranger to BiggerPockets and have been recommending it to many, I'm new to the forum.
I'm a short-term rental operations specialist at iGMS, where I help hosts streamline guest communication, automation, and revenue management. Since 2017, I've been following the industry closely and have learned a lot from hosts and property managers. I hope by officially joining BiggerPockets, I can stay up to date with the latest developments and help others to scale their vacation rental business.

@Koba Molenaar Welcome to BP. How many units do you manage and what is your job there? I run about 7 STR (short term rentals) and a few mid term rentals (usually 90 day stays by traveling nurses) and about 60 long term rentals. I am curious how STRs work in other countries and how much transfers to our country and my area. I am very rural and I am sure STRs in large metropolitans are vastly different from my STRs. I would like to hear you discuss them.
My STRs are actually fun. I enjoy communicating with most. Keeping good cleaners and managing requests for early check ins and folks locking themselves out isn't that bad. Keeping lawns up and houses repaired can be challenging. I have one other office worker and a few part time handymen. I would like to automate more and I am in the process of retiring from my day job and just play with real estate.

@Jerry W. Thanks for the warm welcome. I'm not currently managing units, but I'm offering strategic advice to hosts as part of the iGMS team (so, if you want to automate more, I'd be happy to help).
As for how STRs work here (I'm based in Cape Town, South Africa), I believe things are going to change quite significantly soon. There are mentions of tighter rules and tax by-laws coming soon.
