Hello :) Currently, I am learning about real estate investing and I am interested in fix-and-flipping single-family houses in my area. I have wanted to fix-and-flip homes for 21 years but was under the misguided impression that I needed money in order to invest. After doing more research, I am beginning to realize that my dream is possible and that money can be found in places and ways I never imagined possible. My next step is to figure out which method will work best for my situation. I am happy to be a part of this community and to have access to the wealth of information provided on this site. Thank you! :)

    Hi Ana, 

    Great to see another fellow Canadian in here and an avid fan of house flipping. I too am a house flipper in the Niagara Region of Ontario. Full time now for over 10 years. You will find this community full of great resources and good people and few more of us crazy Canucks too. 

    Looking forward to hearing how your journey unfolds.

    Welcome to the site @Ana MacMillan, thanks for your introduction! You're right, you definitely need money to invest. It just doesn't have to be yours! If you know what you're doing, bring value, and can find deals that make a lot of sense, the money will find it's way to you.

    Welcome to BP @Ana MacMillan !  There's a plethora of information here including lots about creative financing strategies, as you are alluding to. Of course having cash in hand makes things easier while flipping but there are definitely other ways to go about it too. I just completed my first flip here in central Ontario so if I can answer any questions please let me know. The guy in the post just above here @Dave Vogt is light years ahead of me with flipping and is also always willing to help, as are knowledgeable locals like @Account Closed  and basically any of the Canadians here on BP. 

    Now just imagine where you would be today had you found BP and such a great REI community 21 years ago when you first started thinking about investing! Ok, impossible I know but just think....

    Hi @Account Closed Just wondering if you know about the Ottawa Real Estate Investors Organization? I just came across it last night. It is a non-profit organization and it looks like it is a great place to network and learn alot. http://www.oreio.org/ Their next meeting is on July 17th.

    @Ana MacMillan yes, I actually was just reading about the Ottawa REI organization and was gonna post about it in the forums, but you beat me to it. I would definitely be interested in attending the meeting. Not sure of the exact dates as it seems to show July 14, which might be harder for me to attend as I am coming back from out of town that day, ll try to attend and we can arrange to meet up there and discuss further ideas. Let me know if you will be attending this month's meeting.

    I am also sure that in a future meeting @Simon Lloyd would be interested in attending as well. I can see how the meeting goes and we can update other members.

    @Account Closed The OREIO group is fantastic! I was a member for the last year, but only went to 3-4 meetings before I moved to the Caribbean. It's more difficult to attend those meetings now. However, I still benefit from their online forum and resources. I strongly recommend you both become members of this organization. It's very cheap and you will meet a lot of great people. Networking is strongly encouraged and supported. Every industry inside of real estate is represented at each meeting. I think you'll enjoy it.

    Good to hear. Thanks for letting us know, Mark. Wow, the Caribbean - sounds fantastic!! Let me know if there is work for a massage therapist down there :) (That's what I do right now and would love to get away from the cold this winter!) 

    I just tried going on the OREIO site to find out when the next meeting is and the date of the next meeting won't display and it won't let me know select "contact us" so there is no way of finding out when the next meeting is. Anyways, I've emailed a friend that I think may know. Let me know if you are wanting to attend, Walid and when I find out, I can let you know what the date is. I hope we haven't missed it for this month.

    Hi Ana, I notice the original post was over a year ago, and I was wondering if you met your goal and how has your business been going. I'm just down the road in Stittsville and have yet to get started on any deal, but doing lots of research. For our area, could you recommend ways to find private money investors who might be looking for joint ventures... Even with a rookie like me?
