Welcome to Cali and BP @Jeff Baumann I have yet to attend a local meet up but I think it would be fine. Let me know what you find.

Welcome to BiggerPockets @Jeff Baumann, We have a local meetup with BP members every other month or so here in the LA area. Setup a Keyword Alert for some terms like "LA Meetup" and "Los Angeles Meetup" to stay connected.
Grats on the retirement and welcome to sunny California!
