New to BP and ready to take on Houston, Texas Rentals

Hi folks, I recently heard about Bigger Pockets on youtube through a webinar and immediately signed up. 

I am from Houston, but a few months ago I relocated to Spring, Tx (suburb of Houston) from Lees Summit, Missouri (suburb of Kansas City) where I purchased my first home here in Tx. After becoming a home owner my eyes were opened to the greater potential of rental properties. 

I have never invested in real estate before nor have I been involved in a deal besides the home I live in. 

I am looking forward to learning a lot in the multi-family market and having great success providing nice rentals, although I do want to rent out some single family homes as well. 

I believe that I share a common goal with a lot of you in the fact that some day real estate will become the main source of income for myself and family.

    First question, how do you mention someone in a blog post? haha

    For a mention of either a member in the thread or someone you are colleagues with, type @then their name, until it appears in a drop down box below the reply, then select it.  The names can sometimes be slow to appear, especially when there is a lot of BP traffic, so be patient.

    Hi @Isstad Rashadeem Welcome to BP. Coming from Lee's Summit and the Kansas City area, how come you're not investing there? KC is a great market with much better numbers than Houston.

    Thanks for the tip @Larry Fried and I will be reading The Ultimate Beginner's Guide to Real Estate Investing.

    @Mike D'Arrigo I did contact a few real estate groups while there because the numbers did seem pretty nice. But being a true beginner as I am the people are more important and the trading community in Lenexa, Ks took me in with open arms more quickly. 

    I would still love to do real estate there, although I'm still trying to find my footing.

    Locate and attend 3 different local REIA club meetings great place to meet people gather resources and info. Here you will meet wholesalers who provide deals and rehabbers (cash buyers).

    Was the real estate community in Lenexa a club? I happen to live in Lenexa but am not aware of one specific to that location.

    Thanks, those are great resources for me to utilize @Paul Timmins It is in Lee's Summit, Mo. I spoke to some great members individually but never got to the meetings. And I apologize it's down the road in Overland Park, Ks. I got a chance to spend a lot of time learning with the Online Trading Academy there (stock, futures, commodities... ect) They usually are hosting free introductory classes where you can meet a lot of great business owners with free cash flow looking for ways to supplement their income without financing the courses.
