I am wanted to get started in real estate with my primary interest being in multi-family housing. My only experience in real estate is buying and selling my own houses. I have purchased and sold six, and I was the general contractor on the house that I currently live in.
I worked in the high tech construction industry for 25 years and traveled all over the world managing projects. The travel was fun but the pressure was immense and the work soul sucking. I am hoping that I can transfer some of my knowledge to real estate investing and create a career that is rewarding on multiple levels.
I have a wife and two young daughters that I really enjoy spending time with so that is a lot of my motivation to stop working on short term projects thousands of miles away from home.
If there is anyone in the Albuquerque area that would like to chat I would be very interested in learning what others are doing and how they see the local market.
@Rick Davis Welcome! I own one investment property in Albuquerque and one house. I think ABQ is a great market for long term rentals! The UNM/nob hill area appear to be especially strong.
My only recommendation is to stay out of the war zone. Some of those deals look very profitable, but because if the tenants that side of town attracts they are not the greatest of deals.

I've been keeping an eye on ABQ for a while now. I'm also looking at multi-family opportunities for buy and hold (cashflow) investing.
Having your background is going to be a great asset to any partnership or investing venture you put your efforts towards. It's great to have you on the site.

Thanks Jimmy, I would like that. I have a friend in Los Lunas that already has two rental properties that I am trying to convince to expand. I would like for all of us to sit down and chat if that would work for you.
Let me know when would be a good time, but it will have to be after next week. My wife and daughters are getting back from a trip to Japan on Tuesday so I am going to have my hands full for a few days.

Hi guys, welcome to BP. I own 73 doors in Abq, and I love to discuss real estate. Stay away from the war zone, and invest in class B or B- areas. Network like crazy, go to meetup events and learn from others.

I find that the deals are here in Albuquerque but you have to be quick and not rely on the MLS.

What other ways are you finding deals besides the MLS? Are you door-knocking? Using flyers?
@Kirsten Marino so right now that's where I am i have been trying to network more, build greater relationships, been formulating more ideas on finding deals around town, I have been working with my realtor who has some connections but still learning. How about you?
That's wonderful! I live internationally for most of the year and so I'm unable to send flyers or door-knock. Though, I'm not opposed to either of those when I'm in town. I'm only working off of MLS at this time.
