Complete Newbie to the Real Estate World

My name is Steven Palmer and I have had a lingering interest in real estate for awhile and now am more willing to act on it more than ever before.  Currently I am going through The Best Beginner's Real Estate Investing Course Online here to get more of a grasp of it.

I will admit that I do need help but I do know that I need to contribute in return in some way shape or form.  Right now I am not sure how I can help other than I know a bit about computers(I have been studying for the A+ computer cert and have tinkered with computers in the past.)  

Honestly as I continue studying this I don't quite feel up to doing this as a career at all.  I may continue doing this for a bit to get a better paying job for a bit but doing this as a career just sounds dreadful to me in the long run.  Whenever I look at real estate on here I actually get excited about the possibilities.  I hope to learn much here and put it into practice along with being able to be of service to members here in the future.

    Locate and attend 3 different local REIA club meetings great place to meet people gather resources and info. Here you will meet wholesalers who provide deals and rehabbers (cash buyers). Find them through Google and meetup.com

    Thanks for the awful quick welcome!  I bought that book on Flipping Houses instantly.  I never thought of actually looking for local clubs(even though going out and networking sounds like common sense) so I should get on that.

        Hello and welcome to BP!  I am 59 years old and I found BP about 6 months ago and l am still trying to decide what to do.  I hope I can find something I can do part time.  My brother (who is 61) percent is going to be my partner and he has a lot of construction experience.  Education is the key.  Just fell comfortable and take action when your ready.  Mistakes and fear are pretty normal.  Just learn from them and keep on going.  Feel comfortable with it and start looking at deals.  Find experienced and trustworthy members of your Team.  Attornies and Inspectors are two of the most important of your Team.   A local Agent an a CPA is the next two important members of your Team.  Make sure you look for a reliable General Contractor.  Know Your market well and pick good locations.

    I graduated from college with a business degree that emphasized real estate.  In that same year,  in 1980, I got a real estate broker license.  I could get one with my college degree.  I did not have to.take any extra courses.  Regardless of what I had I felt more comfortable in the construction business.  My father has been in the real estate brokerage for about 40 years and he has taught me a little bit.  If you think I can help you with anything please contact me through BP at any time.  Good luck!

    Welcome to BP Steven Palmer ! Taking the courses are great starting points but actually getting out and getting hands on will be your most valuable lessons. Don't be afraid to make mistakes but do take note and learn from them. Honestly the connections I've made on Bigger Pockets and the input I've received from its members and podcasts have far outweighed the multiple seminars and courses I've previously invested in! Lastly I'd advise you to get out and network as much as possible at local REIA and mastermind meetings. Best regards!
