New to REI, from East Houston, TX!

Hey BP, I have been listening to the podcast for a while but new to the forums.

I am from the hard-working east side of H-Town and I am ready to get the ball rolling. 

I currently have a Full-time job and I'm looking to buy my first home, want to do a "live-in flip" of sorts. I am familiar with the Cloverleaf, Northshore, Baytown, Pasadena, Crosby, La Porte/Deer Park areas of Houston.

I hope to learn a lot more here, than just listening to the interviews.

    Hi Jacob, 

    Glad you made it to the site.  I'm pretty new here myself.  

    I've found J.Scott's books on Flipping Houses and Brandon Turner's Rental Property books extremely helpful and motivating.  I highly suggest picking up those books and reading through them.  I also find the podcasts to be extremely informative.  I basically started at episode 1 and am working my way through them day by day on my commute to/from work (it makes the drive much more tolerable).

    The "live-in flip" idea sounds like a great idea!  You might check out Houston's Foreclosure sites and see if it's possible to pick one up there.  That'll be a good way to pick up homes for cents on the dollar, allowing you more money to put into your flip.  Keep in mind you'll have to live there 2 years to avoid being hit with capital gains taxes.

    @Jacob Garza a REI monthly meeting has recently started in Baytown. I've learned quite a bit from attending, and it's good to network with others doing deals on the East end. Next one is on Dec 6th. Here's the link for it
