I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Scott Dykshorn and I've moved to Scottsdale in early 2016. Originally from the Chicago area, I moved to the Phoenix area to be closer to family and escape the Chicago winters.
Professionally, I'm a CPA/Tax Manager at a firm in the area and advise and do tax work for many real estate investors. I've been practicing for about twenty years.
I'm about to close on my first buy & hold rental property. I've been seeing many clients benefit from real estate over the years and figure it's time for me to jump in, as well. So far, with respect to investing, I'm just looking at buy & hold single family homes for positive cash flow.
Looking forward to being part of the BP community and connecting with others in the industry.
@Scott Dykshorn Hi Scott, have you noticed any tax difference between Chicago and Scottsdale?
Sounds like yo may a plan, but if you don't Decide which kind of investor you want to be (SFR, Commercial, Land, Tax Liens, Passive, HML, Multi-Family, Notes, Fix & Flip, Buy & Hold, "Subject To", apartments, duplexes, assisted living, REOs, Foreclosures, Short Sales), etc. Decide how much money you have access to, & the zip codes, city or state you want to focus on. That will determine the next step. Outline where you want to be in five years. Put it all in writing. Start working your plan. There are plenty of people around to help you each step of the way. Drop me a line if I can help.
@Ken Min, thanks for the reply. What kind of tax difference do you mean? The real estate taxes seem to be much lower here.
I do have a plan. I know the importance of maintaining focus, too. However, I enjoy learning the particulars of all the niches, if for no other reason but to help client/contacts.
welcome to bp.
Welcome to BP and congrats on getting out of "winter". I moved here from Minneapolis area 7 years ago and have never looked back. Be sure to factor in good property management, I'd love to help you out with that. If nothing else I'm happy to answer questions if you're doing it on your own. Feel free to give me a call or an email anytime.

AZ is great, moved 19 years ago from Iowa for the weather and real estate. Proudly wearing my Cubs World Series attire!
If any Arizona Property Management questions arise I would be glad to offer my 2 cents as a Broker and Property Manager.
