Newbie in Northern CA... looking for a mentor

Hi all, I'm new to BP. Decided to join after reading a couple BP books. My husband and I are also new to investing and just recently decided that's what we wanted to do with our savings instead of upgrading our own house. I'm looking for a mentor in the bay area in CA. We have a family friend to help us start, but we'd love to get even more perspectives in the buy and hold market. We are open to any groups that meet in the area or even a one on one with an established investor. Thanks in advance for any referrals you give! -Kaylor

Hi Kaylor,

Welcome. N Monterey County has some decent investment possibilities, especially if you have will to take on a fixer.

San Jose/ Bay Area buyers are starting to head south looking for deals. I'm in escrow right now with a guy from Fremont! A bunch of the new houses in Marina are all going to Bay peeps.

Look for value where you need to do a bunch of fixing. That's where the $$ is right now.

Let me know if you need to look anything up.

1 of the best ways to find a mentor is by attending your local real estate investment club. there you will find people in all aspects of real estate.

@Bryan Pham Not positive yet, but I was thinking Sacramento area or north Monterey County. We are still tossing around the idea of investing out of state.

@Account Closed I'm in Sunnyvale and there are some good investor meetups in the Bay Area. They usually meet monthly during the week in Santa Clara and San Jose and there are some really seasoned investors. Always encouraging to attend these meetings. Might be a bit of a hike for you coming across hwy 17 but worth it if you want to connect with local investors. In particular I would recommend these two:
Joe Metz and Dean Higa have a strong investing history good and host a consistent meeting in Santa Clara.
The San Jose Real Estate Networking Club is organized by Jeff Pollack who really knows his stuff.

This is something you would be looking for in North Monterey County/Prunedale area. Buy cheap, dump some $$$ into it, and sell for profit. :)
Have HML lined up.
Have Contractors lined up.
3 Month construction period.
Close within 6 months.
