Newbie from Australia wanting to invest in the US

Hello, my names Jarrad, im 28 and I live in Brisbane, Australia.

I am considering getting into real estate in the US because of the high rental yield that just isn't possible in Australia along with the entry price is being more affordable.

I haven't owned any properties before and i understand that it may be considered fool hardy to attempt to start in an international market from which i have little knowledge about. I am currently considering investing in OH within the next 12 to 18 months. Before i dive straight in, i am planning to do a trip to the US to feel out some of the cities and hopefully meet with some property managers to get their advice on areas.

As i said above, i am very new but have been trying to soak up as much information daily as i can manage, and from what i have learnt, my plan would not be all that dissimilar to investing out of state.

I was wondering if anyone has done something similar, and if so would be able to share any major unforseen hurdles that they weren't prepared for? How would getting traditional financing work from the banks being on a Treaty Investor Visa (E-2)? How would i know what is a suitable area to buy in without having the "on the ground" knowledge?

Kind Regards

Jarrad

    G'day @Jarrad Quin

Absolutely it can be done!  I have also been investing in the US market successfully from Australia for over 6 years.  Best of luck with everything.  Just make sure to check and double check everything and get yourself some good people on the ground!

    Cheers

    Hi Jared,

How has your RE journey been going? I am a US Citizen currently living in the Noosa area. I have invested in SEQ with High Rental Yield---even though most do not believe it can be done.I have also  purchased in the US from Australia. I am currently looking into my next US purchase. I was curious if you ended up making any purchases in the US, perhaps we can exchange notes.

    Thanks

I'm new to BP but not new to investing in the USA. I'm based in Perth. I currently own properties in Detroit, Miami, Miami Beach and Fort Lauderdale. I self-manage all my doors in Florida but I use a property manager for my Detroit portfolio. I own four of my SFH in Bagley (48221) along with my other ones around Detroit metro. I was wondering how you went with your investing journey in the USA? I'm hoping to connect with others now I've joined BP. I do all my own property searches, inspections, book work etc. It's not easy work but I enjoy finding the 'gems'. Feel free to reach out.
