We could all use a little diversion - best street names

We could all use a little diversion - best street names

Happy Friday,

Just a little fun on a Friday.  Jacksonville has some unusual street names.  I am not sure how they came to be, but they are just confusing!

Boulevard Street

Alley Road

Highway Avenue

NoRoad

2nd Ave N & 2nd St N  not to confused with 2nd Ave S & 2nd St S which are 4 blocks apart in Jacksonville Beach.  Sadly this is not the only examples of this insanity.

I own a house on 2nd street circle which is not connected to 2nd street - about 2 blocks away.  Which is not to be confused with the example at the beach.

I own a house on Red Robin Drive, which is next to Christopher Robin Drive which intersect Miss Muffet, Little Boy Blue and Goldilocks.

Camaro Drive West connected to Camaro Drive E in a circle.  Next to Chevelle, Fury and Barracuda

Birdville- The locals hate that name - Canary Rd, Dove Road, Blue Bird Road

Kings, Old Kings and New Kings intersect in multiple places

Strato Road, Strato Road North, Strato Road West and Strato Place.  Yes they all connect and yes they use the same numbering.

Cheers

@Lesley Resnick I’m in my Miami and every time I drive to Orlando and pass “Squirrel Level Road,” I have to laugh.

In college my roommate told me there was a Butt Street.

I didn't believe him (he and I grew up in the same area our college was located at) and he wanted me to drive out there with him to prove it but it was like 1 AM and I refused.

But it's true and he was right! Gotta love Erie, PA

@Lesley Resnick I was born and raised in Jacksonville! I decided to upgrade from bad street names to bad city names...

I now reside in Cumming, Ga. I cringe every time I give my address over the phone to someone and they say “can you please repeat that?”

A state park here in Indiana used to be called Shades of Death. They have since dropped the 'of death' part and just call it Shades.

@Lesley Resnick How quickly we forget! Don't you remember Racetrack Road in St. Johns County, now something called Durbin Creek or some other garbage, cause before homes it was a RACETRACK, but it also led to the dog racetrack at the other end near US1.

We own 2 houses on S. South Street,  so it's odd, go to "South South Street" ..   always feels stupid and that you're repeating yourself.

One thing with street names-- the nicer/happier it sounds, the worse it is... where I used to live, the ghetto was called "Friendship Court"

Pusey Ave in Collingdale, PA. I own a property there that I usually use as an example whenever I speak and it always gets a laugh when I have to clarify that its pronounced PEWsey not the other way with 2 s'...

Always fun explaining it to banks too...

Not a street name, but where I went to college in Northern Idaho there was a town of Tensed.  So when people asked where the college I went to was I told them it was "past Tensed".  So they would follow up with Where WAS the college I went to...

There was a road near Bakersfield Ca called "eight mile rd" was a lot longer than eight miles.

@Kevin Paglia - U of I? Or NIC?  I know Tensed well...used to pass it on the way to U of I. :)   In Caldwell (near Boise), we like the excuse to drive down "Chicken Dinner Road".   I also have a rental in a neighborhood named after all the Ferris Bueller characters.

In Beaver, PA there is a road called Mudlick Holler Road.  Ugh...

In Carefree AZ, there are two roads that intersect - Ho Road and Hum Road, so you can be at the intersection of Ho Hum.  Then they join into one road - Ho Hum Road.

They also have a Bloody Basin Road in AZ.
