What is happening to the "Family Value" republicans?

First it was the U.S. senator from Nevada John Ensign and now it's South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford who boarded the hypocrisy train.
I, for one think that whatever you do behind closed door as long it's involve only consenting adult is your private business whether you're in office or not, What bother me is the hypocrisy demonstrated by those who wave the "family value" flag. Go figure....

Hey Rich, and everyone, my comments weren't polically motivated at all, really! I hold them all in the same light, and I'd rather turn it off! There are many things politicians of all parties have in common. They will never tell you what the whole truth is, they will never tell you what their agenda really is, they will never tell you how they walk out of public office with a low six figure income as a multi-millionaire and they seem to govern in their best interest, not yours. In my book most of them should be in jail and they rank just above a pedophile, nothing to do with any party. They are pretty much equal in my eyes these days!

Thankfully the Republican party in general at least still understands that these kinds of behaviors committed by these two people are unacceptable. The Republican party would never let a senator who ran a gay brothel out of his home retain his ummm.... "position".

 Gay brothel? Who are you referring to? ... Whoever it is, you must admit - this is entrepreneurial initiation.... somewhat written on the republican flag...

You don't know the lovely history on Barney Frank, to whom much of the housing market shenanigans are due? Perhaps that was the kind of cashflow he had in mind to keep mortgages afloat.

Oh,,Tim. You really came with a bad one. I cannot stand this guy. I really don't care about his sexual preference or personal business but when a man cannot admit a mistake, I loose all the respect I have. If I had.

John Ensign was Nevada's good looking golden boy Repub. All hail Ensign. Anymore, as soon as I hear a politician or a preacher throwing boulders, I figure their glass house is about to shatter. Geez, Poli's haven't they figured out no one is perfect? Especially them.!

What's even worse Eddie is when they combine trying to be political and spiritual leaders, like former Democrat presidential candidate and DC shadow senator, Reverand Jesse Jackson. Then again, we've had this issue amongst American politicians of all parties all the way back to Thomas Jefferson.

So what do we do? Abandon the call to disciplined, moral behavior simply because people fail in their quest to achieve it? Do we follow Europeans and generationally convince women that it's ok for a husband to sleep around because that's what a man does?

Heh Bill- do you really want to go back that far?? I'll allow a slight bad choice to show your privates anytime over the Clinton and John Edwards lies. Now, that is funny. Edwards could go to jail, so could've clinton. Do you really want to base your attack on that??? Oh well.

Yep, saw it. It's enough to make me vote for him. That man can take his shirt off for me, any time. (By the way, I've seen the governator nude in a movie. Wouldn't stop me from voting for him)

I don't find it nearly as represensable as keeping an employee the same age as your daughter under your desk, or running off like a coward to hide and leaving a woman to drown in water shallow enough to stand up in.

You guys are missing the point. This was not meant to become a pissing contest. Democrats (And I'm not part of them) by an large, don't run on biblical moral platform, so if they committed adultery, it is a personal issue they have with their spouses and the rest of their family. I hold Republican to a higher standard because they do run on what they call Family Values platform which is rooted in their religious belief. I find it a double standard when Governor Sanford for instance, voted to impeach Clinton and when he gets caught red-handed, he refuse to leave the office.

The Republican Party is still based on the "Traditional Value" plank. That doesn't mean that everyone in the party is "Ozzie and Harriet" Nelson.

Just like the Democratic Party. Many in the Dem Party are anti-abortion, not pro-abortion (and don't say pro choice, the baby had NO choice). Many in the Dem Party are pro-gun, pro male-female marriage, etc....

I am sure the Democrats don't go around bragging that the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Bill Ayers, etc... are party members.

The original thread question, "What is happening to the "Family Values" republicans?" can be answered, WE ARE ALL STILL HERE. The Bible says to JUDGE NOT, but to call sin, SIN.

And we are moving further RIGHT. Screw the middle, the mushy middle, the McCain middle. We are going to the REAGAN RIGHT!

I didn't really get the connection between your statement and the clip, but regardless, who care what religion the president believe in or if he believe in any religion at all. Last time I checked, there is separation between state and church.

    Mike,
Nobody expect anyone to be Ozzie and Harriet. We live in the real world not in TV world. However, if you profess to a certain moral standard, isn't it expected that you live by those values? BTW, you don't have to be religious to hold moral values but if you are, you are called for a higher standard.
With regard to abortion, the choice is the mother's and when a baby becomes a baby, it is a matter of opinion. We can argue forever about it.
Not that I care to defend the democrats (bunch of impotents ) but where do you see evidence that Rev. Wright and Bill Ayers are actually registered Democrats? I think Bill Ayers is a member of the Anarchist party...:)

The Bible says to JUDGE NOT, but to call sin, SIN. Isn't it judging when you categorizing an act a sin? You already defined the act in derogatory term. To me it is judging...

With regard to the Wing... You are wrong sir. All polls actually show that we are moving to the center. There are more and more voters who call themselves independents and would like to see more cooperation between the parties. The wingnuts (Left or right) will always stay in the fringes where they belong.

You need to research Matthew 7:1-5 before you keep mis-characterizing what the message there is. It will help you a lot to understand why Christians always call for moral behavior and when they are doing it right- call people out by name for immoral behavior.

I just took it face value within the context of what Mike wrote. I'm not here to judge Christianity. I believe that everybody has the right to believe in whatever, he/ she finds worth believing in. I just don't appreciate preaching, imposing your believes on others, or hypocrisy.

Amen to that! I'm happy Scott Brown won in MA. Although I am far from any Republican (Or at least most) when it comes to my views, I wish Pellosi, Reid, Boxer, and Feinstein will be kicked out as well. We are suffocating by the old Washington BS. We need fresh blood!

We are actually moving to the center? That would explain the far left Obama easily defeating the centrist McCain and the overwhelming dominance of FOX news over CNN, even MSNBC the far left network has overtaken CNN. Noone is interested in the middle. We are all frustrated with Washington but we are as polarized as ever. You either think big government is the answer or you don't.

Ken, this is probably true with the government sector (including media), but with mainstream America, they mostly believe in the necessity of government (laws to keep order), but too much government from either left or right is bad. Therefore most people would be classified as being in the middle. Government is necessary but not too much government!!!!!
