OK- Everyone knows I root for the underdog (namely non BCS teams) and my heart belongs to BYU. Good weekend.
BYU holds Univ Wash and Heisman candidate Jake Locker to 17 points and zero in 2nd half. This is with a no-name defense, 7 new starters and 2 QB's trading off every other series. Either defense is pretty good or Locker is over rated. No turnovers by either team and very clean game. Other conf temas had couple of good games. TCU beats pac 10 possible conference favorite Ore St , Utah beats # 15 and Big east projected winner Pitt and Boise beats projected something, # 9 Virginia Tech- Ooops, that game is tonite. Look for 4 of top 25 being outsiders of the farcical bcs.
How'd your mighty team do and what creampuff did they play? Okla need not reply. Same yardage as Utah St? At Norman? Make this a thread to report your teams' highlights etc. Good luck to all. Rich

Quack, quack ....72-0 Oregon victory vs a D-1 school albeit not a very good one I presume. Easy pre-season schedule so will see how they fare in a pretty good Pac 10 conference. Back-to-back Rose Bowls not out of the question.

Pac-10 appears much stronger than (at least I) anticipated following this weekend's games:
Arizona beats #9 Iowa
UCLA beats #23 Houston
ASU nipped by #11 Wisconsin, 19-20(missed extra pt)
USC beat Minn
OSU beat Louisville
Wash got trounced by #8 Nebraska
Oregon blew away Ptld St 69-0 (141-0 at home so far)
Stanford crushed WF

BYU is NOT a very good team, period. I went to the Fl St game . It was close (13-10) at half. Starting qb Riley Nelson went out hurt and true fresh Phenom Jake Heaps came in. Nelson is out for the season.
This week we get Nevada, thought to be a lesser team. NV is 3-0 , crushing Cal and scoring FIFTY last week. This will definitely be a re-building year unless Heaps puts on a cape and turns into Superman. From last year we lost qb (now # 2 at AZ), 2 tight ends (both in pros), starting RB (expelled this season for premarital sex) and in pros. These losses are killing us. 4 Frosh tight ends, Frosh qb, and new RBs, plus normal other losses and injuries.
BYU did just sign for a game against West Virginia at Redskins stasium a few years down the road. Rich

Texas has the #2 defense in the country right now and I suspect they will stay near there if their stinking offense can move the ball. Their first real test at home is against UCLA today...should be interesting. I am about to leave for the game.

Quite an impressive performance by the Pac 10 this weekend .... next weekend's Stanford/Oregon game pits arguably not only 2 best in league but nation.

Oregon Ducks roll easily again tonight! Not sure they can stay undefeated in the very tough Pac-10 but that's what makes it so great to watch ... :green:
Does anyone think that Oregon is NOT going all the way this year? Their victory over UCLA was dominating. UCLA's traditionally a spotty team, but Oregon's 52 point average offensive score is ridiculous...

I have never seen a Texas football team do less with more. After 9 straight 10-win seasons this season is a very big disappointment. I have gone to all 3 of their home losses and it is like watching the same game every time...penalties, muffed punts, turnovers, poor decisions, etc.

Auburn vs Oregon for the championship. Appears to be a great matchup with arguably two best offsensives with two best offsensive players (Newton & James) in the country ..... Go Ducks!!

As a diehard BYU fan, I'm glad this season is finally over.... As I stated earlier, BYU was just not a very good team this year. Lots of reasons. They finally went fulltime with their highly rated Frosh QB, Jake Heaps. Ended up 5-2 in last 7 games. Lost to # 3 TCU after playing even for first 25 minutes of first half, and to # 20 Utah by 1 pt, by having last minte chip shot FG blocked. Was a much better team at end of year.
They lost to mostly bowl bound teams; tcu, utah, flst, af, nv and beat sdsu and clobbered utep yesterday.
Watch out next year.... They lose ONE starter from offense. They become independent and have 8 yr contract with ESPN to have EVERY game televised. Lots of income for recruiting etc and assistance from ESPN getting games.
Tough schedule to start; at Miss, at Texas longhorns and Utah in first 3 games. Also play Ore state away and Hawaii away. A very decent schedule on paper, and a tremendously financialy rewarding year . According to BCS crap, that is what it is all about, correct? Good luck to all your favorite teams that are still playing. Rich

No worries Rich...Texas had a bunch of entitled kids playing this year and horrible coaching. They are in the process of fixing that, but it will likely take a few years for them to be back where they were. Winning 10 games a season for 9 straight seasons is tough and will be hard to match.
BYU looked great against UTEP yesterday in the little time I watched. I am looking forward to next season for Texas. They still have the number one recruiting class coming in and they will surely be able to purchase some talented coaches with the largest football revenues in the land.

I have no idea Rich...are they playing next year? I used to get all jacked up about the upcoming season, but this year was kind of a downer!
If the Texas team is anywhere near where they played this year BYU's chances will be quite good. Texas has a very talented running back coming in and hopefully they will recruit a line coach and OC that know how to run the ball north and south.
Garret Gilbert was a 5-star QB coming out of high school, but he made plenty of bad decisions this year and generally underperformed. The spot will likely be up for grabs again next year given his performance.
I really like BYU's program and wish them well. Hopefully it will be a good game and the better team will win. Texas will be loaded with talent, but none of it will matter if they can't recruit some decent coaching to mold the team into a powerhouse again.

2nd game of the season- at Austin, then at BYU in 2013. I figure TX will be favored by 7 or more , due to home game. I actually plan on betting on BYU, and I don't bet often. TX ALWAYS has top recruited players and then poof. Either ratings are overblown, or coaches don't use the talent well. Rich

Well poof is a bit harsh. Texas had more wins than every team in this century prior to this year with the exception of Boise State who plays in a non-BCS conference.
Having said that they don't perform as well as they should because of poor coaching. Greg Davis...the vilified Texas OC finally resigned and is going to be replaced next year. It really is a crap shoot as to what type of team they will have. After the bowl season we should know who the new coaches are and how things are trending. I have heard some great names floated and some names that I would consider bad bets.
If BYU is trending north next year I wouldn't be surprised to see them knock Texas off at home.
