The BP Conference - who's planning on going?

Hello BP!

Just a quick poll - How many of you out there are planning on attending?

If you haven't bought your tickets, i'd be curious to know what would you say is holding you back?

Look forward to seeing your responses . . .

Might this be a good use of a Google Doc? Greg, you could share the Gdoc with anyone who sends you an email requesting it, and they could add their contact info. That way everyone gets all the additions without you having to send a ton of extra emails. Just a thought.

Either way, just sent you my contact info.

Ed - I'm glad to hear that you're bringing the posse. Get those 2 people to join us here on BP (not BO -- at least i hope) . . . more people here means more opportunities for everyone on the site!

It's so tough to get people to change their ways. They're on that other inferior site we discussed. Its 1988 style message board, custom with the dumbest auto filter is tougher to get people away from than you'd think. I agree with you completely. I think a lot of people don't realize how valuable this event is going to be.
I'm not sure I follow the BO remark... I'm still getting started today...

Ed - The BO remark was in reference to your typo 3 messages ago. As for your friends, you can only do what you can do. Speaking of technology, we're making a change to ours next week that will hopefully get a lot of people excited -- changing how we all chat here on the forums. Finally, the event -- well, it is going to be pretty awesome!

Glad you bumped... I'm in. Tickets bought a long time ago. Private plane out there. Staying with local relatives. Nick, can I get in on that party bus somehow?

I'm attending. Staying at the hotel the days of the conference and then with family the other times.

I'm definetly going! But I havent purchased my pass yet. I'm a student and hoping to get the student discount. I havent registered yet because I must submit a photo of my student ID and my class schedule proving that I am a full time student. The fall semester just ended and the spring will begin soon. But I'm not sure If I need to submit last semester's schedule or the new one for spring. I have an error on my spring student schedule, so I must wait for my academic advisor to make the correction. The faculty are all on vacation due to the break. So I must wait a week or two for my advisor to get back.

Does this conference take place around the same time every year?

Jake, you have room on that plane for me? The only thing I have not booked is my flight and was hoping to fly with some others rather than alone.
If anyone wants to coordinate same planes to (and possibly back) the conference who is from the So CAL area, please advise. I will likley fly out of Burbank airport on Thursday morning - afternoon.

Is anyone from So CAL going to the conference? Speak up BP Nation, lets coordinate travel here.

    Will,

Sorry about that- meant to reply last week. I'm taking a small plane out there, that has enough room for a pilot and co-pilot. I'm the co-pilot. So unless you want to go in the luggage compartment, that would be tough.

However, since flying small planes into Denver when it's cold is a dice roll at best, I am going to book a commercial flight as well as a back-up. Would be happy to coordinate via email on that. You've got mine, I believe.

Will Barnard there are definitely some SoCal people coming down. Hopefully they will jump in the thread.

Brian Adamson I haven't checked to see if Jersey is represented; I know that Frank Gallinelli is coming from CT, though.

Jake Kucheck I've been in those tiny planes in the summer above LA and they are like saunas. I imagine it would be like an icebox in the colder months.

Joshua Dorkin I'm fine flying in an icebox as long as the plane is safe. You can always put more layers on- only so much you can do in a sauna before things get very uncomfortable for your fellow travelers.

Btw... will there a be a way to @ mention and only use the first name similar to the way it is done on Facebook? I've always found the mandatory use of first and last names to be awkward...

@Jake - Thanks for the update, no luggage compartment is not my style, so I will pass on that.
I will send you an email with commercial flight options.

@Josh - Thanks, perhaps you can send some of them a PM letting them know about this thread . .

Will - Quick note -- to make the @Mentions work, you need to start typing the person's name and must then select it from the dropdown that appears by clicking on the name. Otherwise, the name won't highlight and the user won't get a notification.

Otherwise, I'd love to contact everyone from CA and elsewhere to get them here on the thread, but I've got a few other things on the plate. This thing is a HUGE undertaking . . . perhaps if things slow down.

There are a few other threads on the event. You can encourage people on those to get over here as well if you'd like.

Flights are real expensive out of Cincinnati so far. Keeping my eye on it and trying to make it work!

Booked my flight last night -- $406 round trip (fees included)...I did not think that was too bad. I will be arriving mid-day on Thursday.

Just booked my flight. I don't know how this really works, or if I really got a good deal, but I've been checking Expedia/Priceline/Hotire/Orbitz over the last few days. Today the rates dropped from upper 300's to 315 (including fees). I don't know if they change prices at the same time in certain cities only or across the country.

Hey guys -- if you guys get alerts from the different airlines around the dates of the event, and find any great deals, please post them here. I think that would be a great way to help one another out!
