Huntsville getting second Amazon fulfillment center

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) - Governor Kay Ivey announced that Amazon plans to open a new fulfillment center in the Rocket City. The news was announced in a press release from the governor’s office.

The projects, located in Huntsville, Montgomery and Birmingham, will ultimately create over 900 jobs at the new facilities. In addition, Amazon said it plans to add more than 500 full-time positions in Alabama before the end of 2021, with preparations made for another 1,800 available seasonal jobs.

Only you can decide that.

Some are fine with $1 net.

Others $500 minimum.

You have to make the call for yourself and your investment direction.

    I have almost 1000 units in Huntsville and its a great market but be careful with those Amazon wearhouses. 900 jobs isint much. A lot of it is automated machines. 5k-10ks is more significant.

    Sounds like maybe Amazon isn’t going to bring all that many jobs to HSV. Might you know what are the other companies/ industries that are providing jobs for the people in the area?

    Agree with @Lane Kawaoka, 900 is not a big number but its all good in building the momentum! 

    With Elon Musk reviving the space exploration I wonder why Huntsville is not getting a lot more attention, I wish blue origin or SpeaceX open big R&D centers in Huntsville.

    Our world-class engine manufacturing facility in The Rocket City will conduct high rate production of the BE-4 and BE-3U engines. These engines will undergo testing at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center on the historic Test Stand 4670. BE-7, our lunar landing engine, is also currently in test at NASA Marshall.

    @Steve Stinson thanks for sharing! Do you know whats the employment numbers for Blue Origin? The last I had read it was less than 100 which is really not much.

    @Gorden Lopes Think that's an accurate current count, but a couple of hundred openings. I'm starting to see several moving here for them.

    @Cheryl Vargas It's not too late, you just have to find the right deal. We purchase in Huntsville and surrounding areas like Athens and Decatur. There are always tenants that commute to work in Huntsville and those outskirts are not as saturated. While Huntsville grows, those areas will too!
