Who else think mentors or over rated

Question

Whats up with the investors/mentors? Their all talk to me  .... Either they want thousands of dollars or want you to have experince  just to give you tips you can find online and in books ...  If i was a verteran investor, i would kindly take on students and mentor them through deals, so they could learn hands on and also i would be taking 60% of the deals profits i help them with, which will give them more motivation to do it on their own, and keep 100%.... Someone need to mentor the mentors ,they forgot where they came from

I have always thought that a "mentor" was not someone who was paid.If they are paid they are a teacher, coach, instructor or perhaps partner but not a mentor.

Noone can tell me that they are my mentor. A mentor is someone that I idolize and often its someone that doesn't know that I exist but have shared knowledge and lead a lifestyle that I aspire to have and they aren't in my pockets every chance that they get.

A coach  or counselor even is more like what many of these so called mentors really are. Not that a coach / counselor is a bad thing or less than a mentor but there is certainly a degree of differences. Since most, nowadays, want you to pay them for coaching / counseling, most likely you'd be considered their sponsor rather than mentee.

It irritates me when people over use the word 'mentor' especially when they should be called a coach / sponsor or counselor. My coin.

My opinion mentoring/partnering is very difficult.  Mentors if they were killing it wouldn't have time to spend teaching/partnering others.  My experience is that gurus/mentors want to create another stream of income because they are that confident that they can make tons off their deals.  Only partnerships I've seen work ok is husbands and wives and half of them aren't even successful.The reason I come on BP is cause there are some very knowledgeable investors (maybe mentors) on here.  I learn by responding to other's posts.

I gotta tell ya...... I am not a mentor nor do I want to be.  It would be very difficult to coach people through the process that works for me.  First of all, I can't even get people to agree with me that my stuff works.

I have sat down with people that want to get into the business on a number of occasions.  It seems that everyone already has their minds made up as to what works and what doesn't.  I don't think people really want to listen to advice, seems that they usually want confirmation on their direction.  It makes sense though, everyone has to reason out their own conclusions.

It would take a lot of patience to be a mentor.  I would not trust that putting in the time would lead to good results based on what I get from human nature.  I can trust myself to do what I want though.
