Size of bathroom of typical SFH for first time buyer

I was wondering what the size of a bathroom is in square feet of a typical SFH for a first time homebuyer. I ask that in order to know how much tile to buy to do the bathroom floor.

This really depends on the size and type of SF house.  Roughly what square footage of home and price point are you talking about?

On a 2,000SF 3-4BR house, the main bath could be roughly 50-70SF.  On a larger but not quite 3,000SF house, it can be up to 90SF.  Master baths could be more but not always.

But truly--a lot of that is specific to your region.  My numbers are based on what I see in the Chicago suburbs.  Back in NJ and MD, the numbers could be smaller because the housing stock is older and the bathroom size was less generous during the era that the majority of homes were built.  Does that make sense?

I'm in Florida and its typically about 5 x 8 or 40 sq. ft. but you have to take out for the tub.  The size is made that way to accomodate a 5 ft. tub.  Typically it becomes about 25 sq. ft. of floor tile.  Hope that helps.  Of course the master ensuite would be bigger as well.

Just measure it. It's not rocket science.

I am most interested in the size of the floor that the tile will be put on and the relation of its size compared to the entire bathroom.
