Success Path?

Success Path?

Investor · Cross Plains, TN · Member since 2015 · 13 posts · 8 votes

I am a brand new investor trying to learn the ropes. My long term goal is to have 15-20 rentals for passive income and flip 10-15 houses a year . I have attended a 3 day work shop put on by Success Path which is endorsed by Tarek and Christina El Moussa of the TV Show Flip or Flop. The 3 day workshop was 8 hrs a day and I paid $1799.97 to attend. The workshop was a disappoint to say the least. Many hours were wasted on a sales pitch to entice into continued education that cost $41,297 for Diamond Enrollment, $26,297 for Platinum Enrollment, and $21,297 for Gold enrollment. The red flags went up for me when the instructor gave the first homework assignment to be done during our lunch break was to call our credit card companies and up our credit limits to $25,000  if possible and to also have our interest rates lowered. They provided a book with a script to use. I did not complete the assignment and when asked why I explained to the instructor in (in front of the class) that I did not feel comfortable doing that since I had sat thru 4 hours of sales pitch thus far and had only wrote 2 sentences that I felt I could actually use to buy real estate. Well that sent him into a hour long rant about negativity and how we were thinking like poor people, upping our credit limit would raise our credit score ect ect. I stuck it out the 3 days  to try to gain as much info for my money as possible. Hey you just are not born knowing this stuff. I am a motivated person and business owner that by the way  I was told would not be successful 3 years ago and today it is. As the workshop went on we were seated one on one with a mentor/salesman who tried to sell the continued education. On the last day we sat down and was offered a SECRET(I was told to keep it to myself and not let any of the others know of the offer) scaled down version maybe the Tin Can version instead of Gold for $15,000. I told our salesman that it would have been nice to know about the other option so we could have had time to consider it but since this was a business of negotiation and I was not happy thus far I would take the scaled down version for $5,000 site unseen. He was not pleased and suggested that I go out on my own and try to make deals but I would ultimately FAIL without the continued education. We agreed to disagree. The better points of the plan that I have not mentioned that really had me sold was a magic software called Property Farm which gives an investor inside information as to a data base of home owners 1-3 months behind on their mortgage payments a way to find forecloses in the making or before they happen and are made public and  also a data base of buyers retail and wholesale . The instructor would not let us see the software for very long at all maybe a 1-2 minute example then he would cover the overhead projector up with a book to hide it from the class . Also a investor coach would be made available which both of these points is why I paid for the 3 day workshop to begin with. Since then I have been contacted by Success Path and I explained my disappointment with the workshop and that a refund was in order ect. She asked for a chance for her company to redeem their self and if we could talk about my situation ect. I agreed and after many questions she couldnt answer  was offered the software (previously not available by itself) 1yr  for $2500 or the software with a coach for 1yr for $7500 and the $1799.97 I spent on the 3 day workshop would be applied towards either. I told her I would have to think about it and let her know. I have read several times on Biggerpockets of people paying for seminars and paying what I consider big money . Has anyone heard of the magic software Property Farm. Does anyone have any info about the Success Path Plan. Sorry for the long post and any help or info will be greatly appreciated.

@Kenneth Norman

Man I am sorry.

In California we have Foreclosure Radar.  Best in the business.

To attack the issue:

Write a letter to their office.  Ask for a refund within 10 business days or you will go to the FTC, BBB and the AG.

Good luck.

Alright. I'm going to leave this in both threads since you asked this question twice (in the future, try to avoid double-posting).

I wouldn't say it's a matter of cleaning up an act so much as attendees managing expectations. A lot of people seem to think that these free seminars they do are a good place to meet a celebrity. But we're talking about a celebrity couple with a TV show, a job, and a family.

If your wife wants to go just so she can meet Christina, she's going to be disappointed. It's rare that they show up to one of these things.

Also, if you're expecting to come out of the free with the knowledge to flip houses like a champ, you'll be disappointed as well. Like literally every other business out there, that stuff is for the paying customers. If you're offended by a sales pitch, don't go.

That said, they call these things preview events for a reason. You'll get some introductory knowledge, an idea of what other products/services/education they can provide (which is actually pretty good - especially the financing opportunities), and a chance to sign up to learn more.

There's been some debate as to whether or not their education is necessary. For me, it was super helpful. The way I see it, some of us need it, some of us don't. The key here is to figure out what you, specifically, need.

What I can say is this: I've made much more than I initially put into it. It's hard work. You have to be on the ball and networking is important. If you do the work, you can make the money.

Keida, thanks for the heads up on all of that. It's a great writeup on what to expect and how to not go overboard with unrealistic expectations. I've spoken with my wife and we've decided to attend this weekend in Houston with our expectations set to a more realistic standard. She's still a little disappointed that she probably won't meet Tarek and Christina in person, but I hope it can be a positive experience for the both of us anyway.

I'll come back here and let you know how it goes!

Hope you have a great time, Michael! Tell us how it went, and if you have any extra questions, PM me! I'm in Austin and you're in Houston!

Keida, I absolutely HAVE to ask...how do you pronounce your name?

Like Keida says. Keep your expectations in check and you'll be fine. Also, take notes on everything, too. Specifically anything mentioning numbers.

    David,

My mom and I are signed up to take the 3 day course for Success Path next weekend. I found your response quite helpful, but I was wondering if I can ask you some more questions? First, they say they will help you with financing after you attend the 3 day course...is this true? Or is it all just a scam to sale us some more "educaton"?

I appreciate ANY info you have for me. We are sorely disappointed after reading some of these reviews, and are trying to decide whether or not to go.

Is there anyone who has taken the 3 day course with Success Path who can help me out?

It is all a scam every course is only a sales pitch to a bigger more exoensive lie. I started this thread a year ago to warn people that these guys don't intend to help you do anything except raise your credit limits so you can afford the next course. If you take the $2000 3 day course sit down and open your book and you will see the real focus of the seminar ...the 3 day boot camp for $20,000 to $40,000 . That is where I got off the train. In my opinion anyone who tells you different gas drank the kool aid and is just trying ti justify paying so much by saying the courses/seminars are a good thing. The only thing good that came out of Success Path is I found this website during my research after I realised I had be taken for $2000. RUN RUN AWAY don't do it you will regret it.

Plenty of people. If you only pick and choose to listen to the bad stuff (because let's be honest, it isn't for everyone and there will always be someone who feels like they had a bad experience, no matter what the business) and ignore the good stuff, you're sealing your own fate before you've even given yourself a chance. Have you seen this, this, or this?

Or, you know, we've made money and we're happy about it. For anyone who reads this thread: Not everyone has the same experience. Not everyone interprets their experience in the same way. Not everyone has the same desires or needs in their financial goals, or in anything for that matter. Take in the whole picture and make your decision from there.

Yes thats true people do have different opinions but look at the numders....the number of people who have had bad experiences verses good ones . The bad ones out weigh the good ten fold!! If you need to give someone $20,000 to make you change the way you think or get off your can and make money then go for it Success Path is for you. The smart play , however, would be to use Bigger Pockets for $200 a year and the $20,000 to fund your first deal.

Well. This has certainly blown up since I last showed up. Based on everything recent here, I decided to go to the free event that they had in Houston over the weekend. And based on how that event went, along with the countless reviews I've seen elsewhere, I've decided to go to the 3-day.

I'll let you all know what I think of it!

Where on earth are you getting your numbers? Tenfold? That's certainly an exaggeration. I also assume you're aware that most positive experiences go unrecorded, because it's typically the upset people that lash out.

That's a good little read if you plan on basing your choices on the reviews of others.

Well Keida you are right I did exaggerate that the  good out weighed the bad ten fold . I probably should have said 23 posts with BAD experiences (with Success Path or courses similar )  and 5 posts with GOOD experiences from this thread would have been better, so my apologies.  This is a place to see POSITIVE reviews as well as NEGATIVE and I have read both . So what you said about positive experiences go unrecorded has not been my experience on this website. Most of the people on this website are eager to share their good experiences I have  just never read one that says Success Path is great . That would be interesting to follow and see if there are more than 5 people on this website that think The Guru courses are a good way to start out in real estate. I am glad that the course helped you but I started this thread to warn people of the BAD experience I had with Success Path so I will always give my opinion as long as people continue to post questions.  We will just have to agree to disagree on this matter and I wish you continued success in your real estate ventures. By the way there is another discussion ongoing about Success Path on this website titled " Please help $41,000 paid to a guru company to be refunded !" Its a good little read also.

"Well Keida you are right I did exaggerate that the good out weighed the bad ten fold . I probably should have said 23 posts with BAD experiences (with Success Path or courses similar ) and 5 posts with GOOD experiences from this thread would have been better, so my apologies."

Okay. So you're limiting your opinion to things found just on Bigger Pockets.

"This is a place to see POSITIVE reviews as well as NEGATIVE and I have read both . So what you said about positive experiences go unrecorded has not been my experience on this website."

How would you know? If they were on this site, or any site, they wouldn't be unrecorded.

"Most of the people on this website are eager to share their good experiences I have just never read one that says Success Path is great. That would be interesting to follow and see if there are more than 5 people on this website that think The Guru courses are a good way to start out in real estate."

To be fair to them, most people don't go and brag on the competition's website...but if you really are interested, you can take a look at the previous sources I cited.

"I am glad that the course helped you but I started this thread to warn people of the BAD experience I had with Success Path so I will always give my opinion as long as people continue to post questions."

That's nice. And I'll continue to share my experience as well. After all, it's only fair to anyone reading to have a balanced look at something so that they can decide for themselves if it's right for them.

"We will just have to agree to disagree on this matter and I wish you continued success in your real estate ventures."

    I wish you the same.

I'm always a little concerned to trust a company who resorts to smearing their own competition. It shows a low level of integrity.

Keida I will ask you as well how do you know so much about what goes recorded or unrecorded. You seem very confrontational I'm not sure why. If you feel so strongly and are such a supporter of Success Path why don't you start your own thread about the Great Experiences you have had with them . I would be interested in seeing the positive posts since I haven't found very many. Thanks for all your valued input.

"You seem very confrontational I'm not sure why."

I'm sorry. I must apologize for this. I've had some family stuff going on and I ended up venting a bit of my frustration out onto you. That wasn't fair of me.

"Keida I will ask you as well how do you know so much about what goes recorded or unrecorded."

Statistics and human behavior. I love science. :)

"Respondents who suffered a bad interaction were 50% more likely to share it on social media than those who had good experiences (45% vs. 30%) and 52% more likely to share it on an online review site such as Yelp (35% vs. 23%)."

    Hi everyone,

I am a Success Path student from Billings and semi-new to Bigger Pockets. I used to work full-time as a software engineering for a small document assessing company. I had a friend that was actively involved with real estate investing in my area and I started watching him have more time to travel with his family and not work the usual 9-to-5 grind. He is a great friend but I know I didn't want to weigh him down with my questions so I decided to find a mentor. I had read Bigger Pockets for a while but wanted more one-on-one help. I ended up attending the Success Path Education events and felt that they were a great fit for me. I was paying for the mentoring I wanted and I just felt better about doing that then constantly asking my friend a million questions (I should mention I'm more of an introvert).  I have successfully profited over $90,000 with the program and owe that to my mentors. The program isn't for everyone but it worked out really well for me. I spend my days working on real estate projects and contracts, while doing some software consulting on the side. It's nice to have an account on Bigger Pockets and if anyone would like to message me, I do my best to check my account often. It's great to be here!

Glad to hear it worked out so well for you, too! I came across this recently, you might enjoy it! This lady makes me laugh. :) Enjoy the hustle!

    Here's my story. 8-13-16
So a friend of mine thought he would get to meet Tarek and Christina. He really wanted to go and I had "free" tickets, so I said sure, why not?

I went in very skeptical. 2 minutes in, we found out there would be no Tarek and Christina. 45 minutes into the presentation, I had yet to learn anything. This is when I got on google and searched "Success Path, Bigger Pockets" and found this thread. I stuck it out for another 10-15 minutes, and right as they started to pitch their excellent "training program", I left. I'm glad I didn't stay for the three hours...

I spent the time I saved reading books and bigger pockets forum posts. Time much better spent, for sure.

Kenneth and all...We went through the same B.S. We have property Farm(barely use it) and then got a coach for additional help!!! All very disappointing to say the least!!! You are so right you can get so much of this for FREE. Believe me if you  do this they will "nickel & dime" you on & on. Everything we do with this requires more money. If we keep this up we will be at 41K...yesterday really did it for me!!! They now say we need a coach to establish our business credit another $ 2500. Then to get credit cards instead of getting Corp credit, which we thought we were getting...the fees for that between my husband and I was around another 11,000. Do I need to go on? Then our coach can't understand why we are ticked off. We have way too much money in this for what we are getting, it just never stops, well it stopped for  us yesterday!!! So, people just BE CAREFUL with slick talking salesmen!!!

Simple question do you get the funding sources or not if you do the 3 day course?
