Converting Primary Bedroom into a unit

Has anyone had success in converting the primary bedroom and bathroom suite into its own unit and requiring tenant to access unit through a private entrance (backyard or side yard entrance to bedroom)? Considering this house hacking tactic and for security/ safety, putting locks on the door so they cannot access the remainder of the home. Any recommendations on things to consider with this approach? Thank you!

I haven't personally done this, but it sounds promising. My only question is if you're able to get the work permitted and to figure out what's required to convert your property into a multifamily home. If everything checks out, this seems like a solid plan to house hack your home.
