Looking to invest in my first property

Hey everybody, I’ve been interested in real estate since 2022 and started off wholesaling. I haven’t gotten too far with that, but I’ve learned a lot throughout the years. I'm now looking into getting my first property sometime next year, but I'm in no rush and want to make sure I take the right steps. If anybody would be willing to meet up for lunch or coffee (on me, of course), I’d really appreciate the opportunity to hear about your experience and get some tips or advice on getting started.

    Hey Jabril, sounds like you’re taking the right approach by not rushing into the first deal. Since you’re already familiar with wholesaling, I’d spend some time learning how to analyze actual rentals and figuring out what numbers make sense for you. You don’t necessarily have to stay in Minneapolis either. There are some solid opportunities across the Midwest, including Ohio, if you’re open to investing out of state. Happy to connect and share what I’ve learned from buying and working with investors here.

    Hey Jabril, good to see you here, man! I see you’ve been a member since 2021 and interested in real estate since 2022. The fact that you’re still here learning and reaching out says a lot about your interest in this. Keep going!

    My advice would be to figure out what held you back with wholesaling before jumping into owning your first property. Not getting far with wholesaling doesn’t automatically mean you can’t be a good investor, but if finding and recognizing a good deal was the missing piece, I’d work on that before putting your own money on the line.

    I’d get around people who are actively doing deals and walk through how they find them, run the numbers, and decide what to pass on. Your idea of meeting people for coffee is a great place to start. Learn what you were missing and build that confidence before taking on the responsibility and risk of ownership. It’s good that you’re not in a rush.
