First time investor looking to get into the co-living space

First time investor looking to get into the co-living space

Member since 2021 · 2 posts · 5 votes

Hi I am a burnt out medical professional looking to get into real estate to be able to retire sooner rather than later. I decreased my retirement funding so that I can save enough pretty quickly to make my first purchase. Does anyone have any realtors they can recommend in this area that may have experience with co-living properties? I am also interested in connecting with any other real estate investors in this area preferably someone who has experience with co-living. Lastly, where can I find more info on local meet-ups to learn more about all this? Thanks in advance!! Really excited to have become a part of the bigger pockets community/family!

Look for groups on FB that host local meet ups, possibly eventbright, you can also search for them on BP. Go to the meet ups and make connections and find people that are doing what you want to do. Best of luck

@Abrar Khan Welcome to the BiggerPockets community! Co-living can be an interesting strategy. If you’re looking at financing options for your first purchase, I’d be happy to connect and see if I can help with the lending side. Feel free to reach out!

@Abrar Khan, I don’t have a Riverside realtor I can personally recommend, but I would look for someone who has actually worked with co-living or rent by the room properties, not just investment properties in general. I’d also make sure the property works for what you plan to do with it before getting too attached to a particular deal.

I’m a real estate attorney and investor, and I’ve worked with investors who found a property they liked and then discovered that their intended use brought up questions they had not considered early enough. With a strategy like co-living, I’d want to understand the property restrictions, how the occupancy will be structured, the agreements involved, and the owner’s responsibilities before moving forward. Since you’re in California, I’d have local professionals confirm the requirements for the specific property and area.

It sounds like you’re doing the right thing by connecting with people who already have experience with the strategy, @Abrar Khan. The legal and ownership side of investment properties is a big part of my work, so your post caught my attention. Happy to stay connected as you work toward your first purchase.

I am not in the co-living space but there is a meetup in DTLA dedicated to this coming up. Not my event and am not affiliated with it
