Then transmit(Arduino with a Radio Module such as nRF24l01) the detection(status) to the raspberry pi and then broadcast the status over HAM or CB (no license required) to my house that would then receive the information using an SDR Receiver using another raspberry pi that has the internet.

True mentors are hard to come by in REI, especially if they aren't expecting you to buy a weekend course or online learning module so keep going to REIs and meeting people, but perfect what you bring to the table so you can create a win-win opportunity for someone to help you learn.

It is much higher end than the wifi cameras you get in a box store.Mine are ethernet and get power over ethernet so I never have to worry about changing batteries.
