If you buy one, though, make sure to take off the top and check it out before you take it home--being natural, the veining patterns vary considerably from box to box!

Two thoughts, both of which have to do with using quantitative vs. qualitative data: Numbers are good for discerning patterns and making high-level comparisons, but don't (can't) really tell the on-the-ground story.

I could have easily sprayed texture on it with the texture gun to match the knock down pattern that is in place on the rest of the wall.

One thing I can tell you after having gone to both law school and Accounting school is that if you get five different attorneys or CPAs in a room and present them with the same fact pattern,  you will never get the exact answer from any two of them as they were all be somewhat different and the same isn't applicable to to IRS auditors.  

There have definitely been patterns, city and area-wise, and I've learned a lot so far and plan on doing a lot of research.
