We are working to rebuild the BiggerPockets forums in order to better serve our members. In doing so, we're hoping to get your suggestions for doing so.
If you have any ideas for features that you'd like to see on the new forums, please let us know.
Is there something that you hope to see here? Do you have some kind of crazy idea?
No idea is too out there to consider, so lets see some brainstorms.
I'd have to think about this one Josh. You've done a great job with the topics/forums and the left column functions you have thus far. There's nothing that glares at me as missing.
A few suggestions which I think would enhance biggerpockets (some taken from vBulletin), in no particular order:
* multi-quote - the ability to select multiple posts for quoting
* kudos - ability to register approval of a post, or agreement with a point, and then count these and somehow rate posters - just provides more incentive to share and try to be constructive and helpful
* ability to view the forum in wide screen format (maybe you can but I can't see how - the forum text only takes up about 30% of the width of my screen)
* more/better emoticons - happy to suggest some if you like ;)
* also I'd like emoticons inserted where the cursor is, rather than always at the end of the text (ie if you edit and want to insert an emoticon in an earlier para, you seem to be only able to do it by cutting and pasting the emoticon, which is always inserted at the very end of the whole post)
* I imagine this is related to the fact that whenever you format some text, your cursor is moved to the very end of the post; I'd rather the cursor be left where it was just prior to applying formatting (eg bold)
* ability to report/hide abusive posts, to try and stop conversations degenerating into slanging matches
Love the forum - thanks, Josh. These are, of course, intended to be helpful suggestions and not criticisms. 8)
I would still like to see a checkbox or some method to mark a specific post to come back to later. More and more, with the multitude of new and active members, there are times when I just can't review all of the "recent" posts in one sitting. There are frequently 50+ over an eight hour period, so I end up missing some until/unless someone else posts to that topic. That's not so bad on NEW topics, as they will get at least some response...but often a new member will respond to an OLD, OLD post, and those can get missed.
You scare me using the term "rebuild"...Whatever you do, DON'T change the fundamental forum set up! Some forums are a PITA, but BP RULES!
I'd like a variant of the "view posts since last visit" link with a selectable date. It would make it easier to have a quick look when I only have a few minutes, and then come back later without losing track of the ones I didn't have time to look at.
Wow! Great suggestions everyone. Many of these certainly see doable. I'm not taking any of the comments as criticisms, whatsoever, so don't worry about that.
I love the site and all the helpful input that everyone has provided.
My only problem is that the topics are broken up into so many forums that I feel it becomes cumbersome to go throgh them. I find myself just sticking to two or three forums topics (wholesaling, marketing, starting out). I feel that on other sites I read the groups are clumped together better and I can quickly browse through and the topics.
Terry - While I appreciate your feedback, the vast majority of our members prefer having the topics split as they currently are. It helps users to find what they want much quicker.
On the spell check . . . it is something we're exploring as we upgrade the forums. That said, the Firefox browser has a built in spell check. I use it for everything and it is remarkably helpful!
No kidding? I just started getting them maybe a week or so ago. I click on a topic and a NetFlicks ad comes up, nothing else. The option is there to skip ad after about 20 seconds, then when I click that, it goes away and the thread pops up. It's not on every thread and I haven't had it happen yet today.
Is there a way we can keep the topics we track in our profile. That will help us to remember which ones we are tracking and they will be readily accessible.
Damien -
We've actually tackled this issue for our upcoming new forum release (this week) . . . it is a great idea, and I hope that we made it work. Let us know this weekend after we launch.
Not sure where to post this (this thread is super old) but how about a section that's divided by market. That way market specific info could be organized in one place.
