ADU or guest house in Connecticut shoreline areas

Hi BP forum,

Does anyone know whether it is allowed, or have experience to share, of adding an ADU or guest house in Connecticut for rental income (either long term or Airbnb)? Is this allowed? Specifically, I am interested in the shoreline communities in the Guilford, Madison area. There seems to be decent demand especially in the summer.
