security cameras system username & password

hi all,

i just put in a new security camera system in one of my apartment buildings, the guy that installed it showed me how to get the app om my phone.

BUT when i want to change settings, like turning on motion sensors etc. i always need to contact him  in order for him to change it.

also, when i want to log in through the computer he said he will need to send me a link etc. because it has a username and password that only he has..

MY question to you is, why wouldn't he give me the username and password to my own system. is that a common thing that the companies do??

it is very common.  Reason is we dont want homeowners getting into system and messing things up.  Installer can easily give yòu info just be ready for a charge if you mess up a setting and unit no longer works.

what happens if they go out of business, change locations etc. etc.   that means i will be locked out of my own system?

You can contact manufacturer, they all have a way to be unlocked.  I would just ask installing, company to unlock for you is all.  We do all the time, juat have client sign stating they mess it up not our problem is all.
