Which company do you use for self directed IRA? I found there are quite a variety of them. From charging a flare fee then transaction fees for every check, wire transfer, annual tax reporting etc.

I'm a huge fan of Quest Trust Company. Their customer service is second to none and they've got more education and networking opportunities than any other company. They also live stream their networking meetings and weekly trainings to their Facebook page. They also have a very large Expo (Quest Expo - Aug 23-25th) taking place in Houston that is open to all investors (QuestExpo.com). I can always get someone on the phone or a quick email response back to my questions. Tell em I sent you and they'll take great care of you!

@Helen De la rosa before setting up a self directed IRA or Roth IRA , investigate if you can open a Solo401k. The benefits of a Solo 401k far outweigh those of an IRA. You can transfer an IRA or old employer 401k into a Solo401k.

Thanks for your advice in advance!
Here are some links that might be helpful as you decide.
It seems that Quest is exiting the Solo 401(k) line of business.
The company SEPiraK provided software for Solo 401(k) recordkeeping to Quest.
I understand they are planning to to offer recordkeeping and plan document maintenance services to Quest clients with no cost to transition. This is true whether those clients were on the optional recordkeeping program or not.
I don't have a lot of details and am not personally involved in this program, but I have experience with SEPiraK separately and they are a quality operation.
You can reach out to info at sepirak com to learn more.
Since Quest Trust was mentioned several times in this forum, I wanted to let folks know that they are resigning as a plan provider for many account holders as of 7.23.24. Has anyone else received this message? If so, does anyone have recommendations for a new plan provider for a Solo 401K? Also, Solera Bank is (one?) of their partner banks for the plan. Thanks for any comments/additions/recommendations.
Saw it on Instagram yesterday. We have not received any word despite a news posting on their site about another company taking over. Seems very shady.
I went with Safeguard Advisors and @Brian Eastman, however I’ve also used Quest Trust who is based in Houston. You should look in to one of their local meetups.
Logan - what did you like about Safeguard? Quest is closing so I am considering other options. JH

Safeguard sets up the paperwork and then depending if you're doing a self directed IRA or a solo 401k, you'll have Kingdom Trust as your custodian or you'll act as the custodian.
In either case, you’ll open an account with your preferred bank and have direct access to placing the funds rather than having to send in a request to the custodian to send the money to your preferred investment.

@Brett Synicky is Solera good to work with anywhere in the country? I'm in Florida and getting started. I have been trying to figure out the best route for using an old Roth IRA to invest in real estate but I'm not old enough to take non-taxed distributions. Thanks for any insight you can provide.

I went with IRA Resources as they had low fees and waived account opening and title transfer fees.
