Accountability group/mastermind/investing club

Hey everybody,

I'm super interested in starting up an accountability group or mastermind. I'm looking around at my friends, and although many of them are talented and successful, none of them really have the drive to get into real estate. They're all in the medical field like me and don't really seem interested.

It's tough to stay focused on one thing when everyone you trust and respect is doing something different.

So.. I'm hoping there might be some interest in forming a group of like minded semi-newbies. We could either get together in person or more likely on the phone occasionally and brainstorm, review deals, keep each other focused, and maybe partner up on some things.

Basically an investing club. I see a lot of people on here in a similar situation to me. I think this site helps them stay motivated and focused. A small group format would take it to the next level. It could be a sounding board for vetting deals, and also allow us to do more deals more quickly.

I'm thinking the broader range of people the better, but ideally it would be people actively looking to do deals and in the position to do so, or at least contribute to one.

If anyone is interested at all chime in!

This sounds awesome. Were you thinking of keeping this local or just anyone?

Also, I would recommend that we also create a group chat/instant message area, that people can just quickly glance on their phones and maybe just run some quick questions. Being in tech, I would definitely recommend slack for this, as its for pc, macs, and mobile devices, and I use it everyday for work. Also, if we want voice chat integrated in, we could use discord. Although it was designed for being a quick way to create chatrooms for video games, I think it would work well for this case.

Let me know what you think or end up doing, and I could set up a group for us.

Hi @Trevor Lohman, I’d be interested too. I’m currently looking at Cleveland and Columbus OH, and also exploring Detroit.

@Trevor Lohman I'd be interested in this if you are looking to do something that isn't local to Cali!

Yeah, this is definitely not just local to California. Actually most of the people in the group are interested in investing out of state. I know a lot of people have keyword searches set up so I'll just mention some cities that I know some people are interested in and if anyone is interested in potentially some partnerships where they serve as the boots on the ground, that would be awesome. Kansas City, Charlotte NC, raleigh NC, Dallas, Columbus. Ping me or @Trevor Lohman for a link to join!

I would love to be a part of this group as well. I also am looking for out of state investment. I live in SoCal but spent 20 yrs in Kansas City so I know the area. I’m thinking about starting there first. Multi-family! But I just need a push.

Great idea @Trevor Lohman and @Tony Xu!

I'm in Raleigh but would love to be part of the group.  I've been in a few mastermind groups and I agree-- they're not all that common in our age group but they need to be! Will this be a Facebook group or something? Either way I'm in!

Tony Xu I found about 150 investors and added to a secret Facebook group but it's really hard to find like minded buy hold investors because lol it's passive. A lot of people have families busy jobs and don't have the time for accountability calls. You can use my ZOOM conference line for calls if you want to set something up.

@Trevor Lohman I would definitely be interested in being part of this group. My wife and I live in Hermosa Beach and we currently have two SFR buy and hold properties in Nampa, ID. Our current goals are to acquire more buy and holds in the Boise metro area but it's a pretty hot market right now so the deals are a bit harder to come by. I am a definite believer in that market though long term having grown up there and seeing the change. We are also looking at VR's in the Coachella Valley as well.
    Would love to be included.

    Thanks,

    Devon

Yeah, I think what we are finding is people are active when they are looking for a new deal. But after they get a deal or if they aren't looking, they don't participate as much. However, we do have some people who want to acquire multiple rental properties so they are more active in general.

@Tony Xu Can we compare notes? I have stopped doing sfhs but I try to keep current.  Let me know if you want to connect and maybe I can help. Sorry don't always make it back to these forums.

I'm in Missouri and teaching from experience on foreclosures and REO purchasing (online buying only). But my brain is a sponge right now as my goal is to learn about as many ways to invest as well as hearing experiences of those who are active in the community - with the end goal of helping me be better at teaching. How do I request to join and listen in?
