I've got a relative considering purchasing a farm house with some large acreage. The main question is a what to do with the 60ac tract that's been split into 4 paddocks for use with cattle (and was being used until 2 years ago.) We need to keep bona-fide farm status and would love to find someone to lease it out -- but are totally unsure how to find an operator Any suggestions? Thanks!!

I would talk to all the neighbors, if they're going to have cattle there someone in close proximity will be the most likely candidate, and they would know of someone if it's a farming community.
Or hit up the local cattle auction which are usually twice a week or more, someone there would point you in the right direction!

@Dylan Kennedy Hi Dylan. There are three sources I suggest: your county agricultural extension agent (every county has one), a loan officer at your local farm credit bank, and your local Farm Bureau office. Any one of these should be able to give some good referrals. Good luck. Marty

@Dylan Kennedy the county extension agent will be the best first place to go. Try the local farmers union also, a lot of smaller farmers in that group that would be interested or know of someone interested. Lease rates are all over the place, but USDA and or extension would have the ball park figures by county.
