The importance of posting on BP (MUST READ FOR NEWBIES)

Over the last year, I've been saving up money for my first deal, and have yet to do one. When I first started on the site I felt that I had nothing to offer, yet. After reading the forums and listening to almost every podcast, I started posting and answering people's questions both about my market, and based on other people's experience. Because of this, and posting over 500 times now, I've had dozens of people reach out to me, to ask if I'm interested in deals, on 10+ email lists for meetups, and potential partnerships. And I've met a bunch of people already through the site. All of a sudden, deals start coming to you once you have those relationships. Even if you're a newbie, learn and post in the forums and the relationships will start blossoming, which turns into deals, which turns into profits. Jump in and do it.

@Vincent Crane

Yes, you made some excellent points and I can attest to the fact that because of my interactions on the site, there have been a lot of "sidebar" communications with fellow BPers as you have alluded to.

So, the bottom line is that the community thrives on these interactions and the more participations there are, then, the more vibrant the community becomes.

Almost everyone is afraid of public speaking and online interaction is no different and often invokes fear. But, after you have done the first speech/post and remain standing, then the fear is gone and you are emboldened to do others.

Good luck on your REI journey and you will be ready for that 1st purchase in 2016!

@Vincent Crane I've seen you engage and contribute to the forums so regularly I just figured you were an 'old pro'!    Good for you inspiring other new folks and just jumping in and offering what you  can.  You're right - we all have something to offer.  Posting and engaging changes your fear level and I encourage other to do the same!  If you're kind of unsure about something just say so.  None of us know it all!

I agree about the helpfulness of BP.  I haven't experienced it on the deal side like you have, but definitely on idea flow and helping to keep yourself focused.

I recently was a little discouraged by a lack of good deals that I've been looking for, and I was even beginning to wonder why I'm doing this.  So I just started looking around on BP.  Wasn't long before I got my head on straight and started trying new methods.  I think I have a couple ideas lined up for some potential deals.

    Great advice, Vincent.

Even a young person with no prior real estate experience could have some valuable insight that could help someone else here on BP.

Great post. By engaging in the forums, you're able to gain and share knowledge, while building relationships. This is a great platform to build your brand and communicate your expertise, value and goals to a prime audience of investors, lenders, agents, wholesalers, contractors, etc. Take advantage of the platform and convert the online relationships into real world relationships and eventually, real estate deals.

Even if you don't have a lot of knowledge to share there are more ways to engage than just posting. Vote for posts that you like or learn something from. Add colleagues who have similar interest. Welcome new members to the site. Find a way to engage, and you will see the value.

Great post, thank you for sharing. I've been on BP for less than a week, and have only introduced myself so far in the forums. I'm trying to read and educate myself as much as possible.. It makes sense that the best way to do that is to begin networking and picking people's brains on the topic. Thanks for putting this out there!

I need to start participating more. Thanks for making this thread, it reminds me of that. At first, I didn't want to respond to peoples questions very often, but after listening to the podcast I have learned a lot and feel more prepared to offer some direction when people have questions. I worked my way up to show 61 so far with very few missed episodes in between.

Just remember there are lurkers on this site that are private but still find you through the SEO juice of Google for BP postings.

The largest contact I have made on this site is an individual close to a net worth of 9 figures.

I have met many at 7 to 8 figures. They are private and do not plaster it all over BP. They use BP as a meeting ground to find someone with the expertise they are looking for to accomplish their goals. You might never see them post at all.

This is a very powerful site not just because what you see on the forums but all the other benefits that come from this site offline.

The best thing I can say is get educated and be the best in your field and share that knowledge. People will see that and gravitate toward doing business with you. Be honest about  your track record as everyone starts somewhere. It's when you blow yourself up and overstate experience that you can lose all credibility.

When I came to this site a very long time ago I didn't know much about investing. This was way back when BP first started. My membership says 2010 but I was a member way before that it just was purged when he went to the forum concept so I had to redo it again.

Used to BP was a static one page and forums didn't exist. I came back to it years later and was surprised how much it had improved.  The BP site isn't very forgiving if you are fluffing numbers. The good part is you will learn the numbers quick. The forums are nicer these days as back then there were a lot of old time investors on the site and you would get eaten alive if the numbers were off.

I simply absorbed everything that was said and kept learning on my own until I felt I could contribute to a conversation accurately with numbers and pay it forward. Today I have learned so much from this site and enjoy the conversation. It's my fun time in between working with clients............ : )

Awesome tip! I love the different levels of experience and difference in perspectives that the BP community offers on a regular basis. I think most of the posts and comments are added value, whether they're coming from a seasoned vet or a newbie.

Thank you for such an encouraging post! As a newbie I often read but don't feel like I have much to offer.  Your post makes me rethink that perspective.   While I am a new investor, I have purchased theee personal residences over the years - so maybe I can offet something.  Thanks again!
