I'd like to get my RE license, is an online course okay?

Greetings BP Family!

Quick question: Would anybody be willing to briefly share their experiences, if any, with realestateexpress.com for taking a course to get on the track to earning a license with the state of Florida?

I did my sales course and broker course online. I highly recommend it. Just make sure you go thru a company that has been approved by your states department of regulation and licensing.

    if you're a self starter and learner then online will be fine. If you like to ask or of questions and have someone guide you through then you'd be better suited for a classroom setting. 

    I did mine online and it was great. Biggest reason is doing it on your schedule. I used career web school but not sure if they also have a program for fl.

    I am currently in the process of getting my license as well in the state of Georgia.  I did my 75 hour pre-licensing course online because I am a self starter and because of the flexibility with my schedule.  Just go to your state run real estate commission and find out the schools they authorize under Florida and see if those schools offer online courses.  They all pretty much teach the same content.

    I paid for an online 75 hour course in GA a number of years ago but I also have had a full time job.  Anyway I did not finish the class within the designated few months so basically the amount of money paid was wasted.  I did not pick it back up due to no sense of urgency or other priorities.   I plan to get my license later part of this year only because I like to have a bit more control and access when scouting out investment properties.  This time I will definitely not choose on line class because I think the freedom of doing it at my own pace is what actually hurt me last time.  I would sign up with a intense 1-1.5 month instructor guided course.  Hopefully it gives me the pressure needed and the mindset of having get it done.   Also there is groupon offers with almost half off for this type of offerings.

    Online is fine. I did it online but I can't remember which one. All they did was give me the books and a test on each book. That was it. I found podcasts of lectures to listen to in the car, then just studied my *** off before the state exam.

    Both my wife and I have used realestateexpress.com for pre and post licensing.  It's a big time saver but one caveat with us - I didn't have to do the full course because I had college credit.  Only my wife used it for the pre-license and we are in Georgia.  Funny thing about post-license test though is that it's almost the same thing and you are required in Georgia to take it what seems right away and it's another 24 hour class I believe. Very good for my schedule and I learned fine online.  Mostly simple material where if you went to college will be pleasantly surprised at the ease of learning and then maybe disappointed at same time how "easy" it is to get the license.

    I also used real estate express and really enjoyed the site. With an online class, make sure you manage your time well and take all the exams seriously. It's harder than you would think.

    I took my course online. I dont remember the co., but I can assure you it took me more than 75 hours, lol

    There is very little in these classes that is applicable to the real world. With that being the case, I would actually suggest taking it online.

    Most of your real education will happen at either training at your brokerage or though CE classes.

    I took the online courses to get my RE license and it worked great!  It allowed me to study and work at my own pace and on my own schedule.

    To do this I think it is important to be a disciplined person who is a self starter.  I set a strict schedule for myself and followed it diligently.

    Hi!! Everyone learns differently and has their own style. You might be better off in a classroom setting but for me personally, I always recommend taking the courses online. It allows you a lot more freedom so you can complete them very quickly or move at a slower pace and always on your schedule. Also, keep in mind, the goal of the courses is to achieve your license--not become a real estate expert. The real learning begins on the job----thanks, hope this helps.

    I'm really glad I came across this thread. Very insightful on the difference between the online classes and the actual class rooms. I'm entertaining the idea of getting my license but dreaded having to go to class. I think the online option would be a great option for a lot of people.

    I have referred 4+ people to realestateexpress. com, and 2 of the 4 signed up with my name as their manager. That gave me the ability to monitor their progress. Both passed the course at a fraction of the cost of in-class courses, 1 took the state and passed, and 1 lost interest. I believe this is a viable cost consious way to obtain a Florida license on a budget.

    @Richard Hammac I took the online course for my FL license from realestateexpress.com. They even offer sales from time to time (check out their facebook page).

    I work full time, and taking the course online just made a lot more sense. Once you get licensed, your brokerage and local realtor association should have an abundance of classes as well (I went to a 1031 exchange class, and will be going to a SD IRA/401k class).

    Youtube some real estate math. Tony Mesa has good videos. Math can be confusing when you're just reading as opposed to listening/watching a video.

    I am currently working myself through the Real Estate Agent licensure process in Minnesota, and the most widely used program is offered through Kaplan. I would agree with the folks who replied previously to me that it takes drive and motivation, especially if you are working or in school full time. Just make sure the state approves the program, and many offer review and study packages for the national and state exams included.

    @Shane Hedeen Shane, I am in MN also and considering Kaplan as well. Do you know if one has to attach to real estate agency once receives the license?

    You do have to have your license hung with a licensed broker in Minnesota. Once you pass the 3-30 hour courses required in Minnesota and all the subsequent testing, you and your broker where your license will hang apply for state licensure. Hope that helps answer your question! I just started the Kaplan online program a few weeks ago while working, and it is great so far. Good information, and being able to work on it at my own pace was exactly what I was seeking. Best of luck, and feel free to send a message as well if you choose to go that way!

    @Shane Hedeen does Kaplan guide you through the licensing process or it is just passing the test? Also, do you still have to work with licensed broker or you can be on your own. I want to get the license to access the MLS, get insight info and possibly save on closing. I do not want to be a real estate agent however.

    I definitely recommend going the online route.  I took classes for both the CA real estate sales license and the CA real estate brokers license through Allied School.  I found that their sample exams were more challenging than the actual state exam.

    Hi @Richard Hammac I did real estate express online course, but I did not find it helpful. I ended up taking it in class also through GA MLS. I needed that in class learning and study sessions with other people. Let me know if you need any help. What type of learner are you? Have you ever taken an online class before?

     WOW...I did the exact same thing!! (ashamed to admit)...I was working full time and purchased the online course ($250) and did not complete it....now I am looking to get licensed this year, next cpl of months....good thing is, the online course has gone down to $195.

    Not sure if this was mentioned already, but you can always take your prelicense courses through a local community college online. Usually competitively priced and you get college credits for your courses. Second option, Rockwell Institute, excellent online program and some community colleges use them for their online RE offerings. Just make sure to review California's BRE restrictions on how many course hours you can complete per day/week. Best of luck!!
