Just curious . . . how many of you would be willing to tell others about your actual real estate portfolio?
Basically, I'm curious about people's attitudes about sharing this information in public.
So -- would you?
BTW - I don't want you to here, but want to find out your attitudes/thoughts on the matter - really looking for your opinions on the privacy of your personal / businesses portfolio.

I guess some of my concern is the unknown. A specific one is that tenants or someone else believe me to be a rich target they can steal from. Fake slip and fall, or whatever.

Not necessarily. The Secretary of State of California doesn't have my name or address on any of my LLC docs, only the names of my resident agent and manager. The only organizations that know I'm the owner of my LLC are my attorney's office and my credit union, not quite public sources. :wink:

Im a newbie here and I don't have a portfolio yet but I don't think giving the specific addresses would be a good idea. The actual descriptions, ie "I have 3 3BR 2B SFR and 2 duplexes" would be ok in my eyes.

OK I'll show my ignorance. How would you find out what LLCs and corporations I own or have some share in?
Jon, in some states, you can go to the Secretary of State and just arun a name and everything with that name pops up. Now you have the Charter or Originating Filing that lists all originating members and the Registered Agent.
With the name of the LLC/Corp. you can run that name at the recorder's office and all properties, or recorded transactions in that name will pop up. Run it through civil records, all civil actions will show up. :cool:

Thanks Bill. I can't think of a good reason for me to go to lengths to hide ownership. So to answer Josh's question more specifically, yes I'd post a general description of my portfolio. And I actually have over many posts.

jarred, that's a great response, and something i've been arguing with myself lately...on one hand, i want to shout out to everyone i know what i do to get more private money..on the other hand, i dont want to seem like i'm bragging in any way or being a douche...tough call, huh? just listing off that i own X number of properties, in my mind is still just an ego boost..it's kind of like saying, "ya, i can bench 400 pounds", when people can aleady see you have a huge chest and python arms...it just boosts your own ego, and you know i'm not that guy!

I would share my portoflio online (minus the addresses of course); but I consider myself a pretty "open" individual, so I can tend to be an open book (maybe too open sometimes)...

I will share with family members and other Investors and thats it. Seems to drive a wedge between myself and friends so I stopped talking about my achievements with them even if they ask.

i would in general form, i have x duplexes, y triplexes, z houses. i dont think any more detail would be needed (address, cost paid etc) it may help connect investors with each other. if i see someone that invests in the same types of buildings that i do, i would be more inclined to open a discussion with them

I get uncomfortable telling people how many properties/units I own...that's just me, I know I should more proud of my hardwork but I don't like to boast/brag
