I tried searching and didn't have much luck so thanks in advance if you are repeating advice already given. Do you have a ring or some type of video on the front door? I'm thinking of monitoring number of occupants and for unregistered dogs. Although I almost wonder if better to don't ask don't tell rather than engage.

I don't like the STR camera doorbell as it is too in your face for me.
I do use the Ring motion floodlight cameras and love them.
I agree with John. I have motion lights and all night flood lights. Oh, and ace-in-the-hole: my STR house is next door...

I have a Ring doorbell on my STR, and it's been great, no problems, was easy to install. I normally don't even look at guests until check out day to see if they leave on time, and when my cleaner shows up. One thing I like is being able to hear on my phone when someone rings the doorbell when no guests are booked, and being able to answer the person through it. That happens rarely. But sometime crooks will ring doorbells to see if anyone is home, looking for empty houses to rob. Ring has a subscription cost. For my own home, I bought a Eufy brand doorbell which has no monthly fees. I've had it for about 4 months, and so far it's been great too.
Ring doorbell camera on all the homes I manage. only had maybe 2% even give it a 2nd look. I usually check it to see if a pet was brought when no one in booking.
We use Ring, but I'd keep any message about a possible extra guest neutral. "Just checking how many are staying tonight" lands a lot better than opening with an accusation off one clip.
