Arcade 1up Cabinets on sale at Ollie's Bargain Outlets

So I tend to stock some high end arcade cabinets at each property and then fill them out with a lot more cheaper Arcade1up cabinets. I only get them when they are on sale somewhere for $299 or I get them used off FB marketplace. At that price I can just swap them in and out if it goes bad, but actually I tend to bring the broken ones back home and fix them and then put it back in the rotation. It does give a visual pop when you show a row of arcade cabinets vs just one sitting there.

Anyway, I know some people hate them. I get it. But Ollie's Bargain Outlets got a shipment in of these that they distributed all across the country. I was late to the party but I did pick up a spare cabinet yesterday. The sale started on Saturday and I found out by all these guys posting what they snagged at Ollie's that day. By the time I got wind of it the Ollie's in my area were down to just Ms Pac Man and Marvel vs Capcom, but some guys were picking up Star Wars cabinets, WrestleMania, TMNTs, etc.. all with risers too for $299.

Anyway if you are interested in picking up some extra arcade cabinets cheap, this as cheap as they come. Just call your local Ollie's and see what they still have in stock.

Why was my first thought, after fondly reminiscing about how much I miss Ollies, that these things look like they will tip over and crush someone's little darling? But it is a great deal.

You could anchor them to the wall, using the furniture anchor kits they have for dressers  because kids climb them with the drawers open and tip them over.  I have my dressers anchored in my STR.  https://www.walmart.com/ip/Furniture-Anchors-10-Packs-Wall-A...

Can you post a picture of what an arcade cabinet looks like?

Here a link to the cabinet I picked up. These guys are already dropping them on ebay thinking they are going to make a killing.

They all come with straps that attach the back of these cabinets to the wall to keep from tipping.

I think these are cool, in the right houses or the right part of houses.

What usually goes first on yours, buttons or the screen? Swapping a spare in and fixing the broken one at home sounds a lot less painful than trying to sort it out with guests in the house.

Well the biggest problems I have had have mostly been related to the Terminator 2 light gun game. I got a few of these on sale for like $300 each at kohls years ago. One guest smashed a screen with a pool stick. That was the first. Then the guns quit working - the design of the gun storage is that it crimps the cable feeding the gun when the gun is in the cable so that wears out. The original cabinet had the cables for the guns hanging in front of the cabinet so I'm sure they get tugged on and yanked etc..

I then modded the cabinets so the cables stay in the machine, drilled out the gun holder to make this work and put a weight on the cables to help it retract back in.

After enough repairs with this particular model as well as hearing about others with the racing games - i decided no more Arcade1up games with external components. i.e. light guns, steering wheels, pedals. I now stick to straight up, joystick, buttons, spinners and trackballs.

In 8 years, only twice have I had to replace a button but that is super easy. The only other issue is lighting taking out the power supply - cheap to replace.

That makes the choice a lot clearer, Ken. Two button replacements in eight years is useful context. I'd happily give up the steering wheel if it means fewer moving parts to check between guests.
