Once again my handyman who has no accountability said “maybe next week” and “it’ll be a month” so I tried to book a TAKL for a small job. I got a provider within seconds. They have expanded to my area and this is great news!!
Those of you who self manage check out an app called Takl. It’s like Uber for handymen. I use it very often in different markets (they’re not in every city yet). The best part is, you review the job they did so they actually try. Much like your hard work on Airbnb.
Knoxville has expanded their market to the Pforge Gburg area for many of us cabin owners this is great news!
They take pics before and after the job and submit them for your approval, which is especially handy for long distance managers!
Thank you Lucas! From a self managing perspective do you have someone who is your eyes and ears on the ground. Sort of like a property manager but you only pay on a per use basis?
This is the site/app I've been using for 2 years now works great. Most recently I needed someone to cut three big trees that was leaning toward the house. Average price from most folks were $1,500 for the job. After negotiating based on how many units I manage and been a Realtor with commitment to refer folks in the future I was able to get two of the companies drop the price to $1,100 for the job... @Account Closed Thumbtack can be useful but I’ve been burned on there before. No review system = no accountability. I find Thumbtack is more for folks looking to pay less than the job is worth. Another option is Handy but it seems TAKL is leading the way. I may get 0-1 providers on Handy, and 10 to choose from on TAKL.
Then again TAKL is based out of Tennessee and there’s where I am so maybe it’s better here than other areas.
That looks like a great app; very useful, quick and handy. Unfortunately I live in the modern day equivalent of the Wild West, and the TAKL service isn't offered in this geographic location. Instead of cattle rustling we have lots of burglaries. Instead of moonshine stills, we have meth labs. Instead of back room poker games, we have organized drug dealing. Instead of lynchings, there are alot of unsolved homicides. Instead of gold mining, we have a refinery.
Just for fun, I tried to sign up as a provider. They wanted a $30 non-refundable fee to do a background check.
It's true! TAKL is a lifesaver, especially for someone new to the area of self-managing! My boyfriend and I have used it a few times for repairs on our personal house-hack!
