I am looking to expand my portfolio and add some vacation rentals. I'm extremely busy with my land flipping business and am happy to pay for a course or coaching to decrease the learning curve for STR (short term rentals). Who has taken a STR course or a vacation rental course and found it to be actionable and complete? I'm already familiar with residential buy and hold real estate but I could use a crash course on the STR nuances and a community of people doing deals to bounce ideas and questions off of.
I plan to start doing research in the markets where we vacation since we're already familiar with them (Lake Tahoe, Mendocino, Santa Cruz, New Jersey)
I haven't done the ST shop classes, but I respect Avery and Luke and what they have to say so if you feel you need a class, that would be the one to take.
Plus, just hang out here. Read everything on this forum and it will prepare you. There is more info here that you can shake a stick at.
I would recommend reading Avery Carl's book rather than join their class. 90% of the stuff in the class came right out of the book. The other 10% you would get is being able to ask specific questions directly to her and Luke
My response is unique given the fact that I’m literally a training professional, performance and behavioral for my day job.
I’m not trying to rain on anyones business model, but there is an abundance of information circulating for free. Take the little time, and do some research. You’ll gain a better understanding and may even increase your retention. Don’t buy courses, that are typically “out of the box”, instead buy coffee/drinks for people willing to talk and share experiences(similar to this forum). Adult Learning isn’t a one size fits all approach. Just my $.2.
@Matthew Bailey In my option the best way to learn is to do it. That is how I learned, I bought one. My suggestion (for your first at least) is to buy a property that is already a STR. It's really not that difficult.
There are great programs out there that I truly believe are outstanding! I thing the best training is getting out there learn from the great individuals here on BP, and you will be off and running and you will not even realize it. Your chances of failing are always there either way. Just make sure you are "failing forward" and it will be all good. Have Fun!
