Hi BP,
I am a 29 year old beginner in REI and I have recently moved to the Huntsville, Alabama (Madison county) area. My plan is to start in wholesaling and then invest in multiple rental properties to bring financial freedom to my family. All while working full time as an Engineer. I am ready to take action, but first I would love to shadow an experienced real estate investor. Especially a wholesaler.
I need a break from reading so much and would like to see how REI deals go down up close. I am sure I can bring great value to anybody who doesn't mind letting me shadow them for a while.
Once I learn enough, I plan on working in REI until I am extremely successful. And hopefully have a great partnership with my mentor and give back to them the way they gave to me.
@Lawrence Walker welcome to BP. A mentor is great but don't wait until you find a mentor. You can start moving forward without one. By moving forward I do not mean jump into a deal before you are ready; but you can learn here, go out into the market and start looking at properties, and network to build your connections.
You'll get lots of good advice on here and you'll learn a lot. Your same question has been asked here a lot and I'm pretty sure that no one has actually found an investor to shadow. I've actually had multiple people offer to work for me at ZERO cost, just to see what I do. I figured that would cost ME time and money. Good luck. Rich
Im pretty much in the same boat, as I have minimal connections but the desire to learn as quickly as possible. Ive been reading mostly to get my education up to par. But ive also been looking for deals everywhere, that way to entice potential partners/mentors to work with me so that they get paid for their time and i get the most important resource to me, which is experience. I plan to attend the REIA meeting this Thursday as well, glad to know that there will be inexperienced investors there as well, ha.
So how did the meeting go guys? Was it beneficial, I've been planning on going to the next one but I didn't realize there was one in the Huntsville area back in April. Guess I may have been looking in the wrong places.
It was very beneficial. The President, Zach did a great presentation on different investing options. There were some good networking opportunities also. The next one is June 10th @ 6,100 Castle Dr. Madison, AL 35758.

Welcome to Bigger Pockets. I discovered BP a while ago but didn't really get involved until recently. I'm sorry I waited so long to "plug in". BP is an awesome resource.
I am a cash flow investor. I have been a landlord since 1982 and I have also flipped a fair numbers of homes over the years.
A couple of years ago I discovered the "paper" side of the real estate investment world. I purchased my first Mortgage Note. I have been actively acquiring Notes for passive cash flow since that time.
I like the the passive nature, the safety and the cash flow that I receive from Performing Mortgage Notes. I still own "brick & mortar" real estate but my end game is to be 100% in paper at some point.
