Back After a Few Years — Passive Investor, LP Educator, and Familiar Face
Hey BiggerPockets community — I'm Chad Ackerman, and while my profile says "new member," some of you may recognize the name. I was active here a few years back, stepped away for a while, and I'm excited to be back with a lot of new things to share.
Let me give you the quick version of my journey.
Like a lot of people in this community, I started as a busy W2 professional who knew there had to be a better way to build wealth than hoping my 401k would be enough someday. I made a decision that felt bold at the time — I liquidated my 401k and moved that capital into real estate syndications as a limited partner. It was one of the most intentional financial decisions I've ever made, and it changed everything for me. Over time, my passive income from those investments replaced my W2 income entirely.
Along the way, I co-founded Left Field Investors — a community built to help other W2 professionals learn how to invest passively. That community grew into something special, and eventually we sold it to BiggerPockets, where it became PassivePockets. Pretty full circle to be back here posting about it.
After that chapter closed, I knew I wasn't done. The experience of building LFI showed me something I couldn't ignore: there is a real gap in quality education for people who want to invest passively but don't know where to start. Most resources assume you already know the basics. New investors are left to piece it together on their own — and that costs them time, money, and confidence.
That's why I started CARE — Chad Ackerman Real Estate. CARE is a passive real estate education company built specifically for busy professionals who want to invest smarter, not just faster. Our structured learning journey walks newcomers from complete beginner all the way to their first LP investment, before they ever commit a dollar of capital.
I'm back on BiggerPockets to connect, contribute, and continue the mission. If you're somewhere on the path from curious to confident — I'd love to be a resource for you.
Happy to answer questions, swap stories, or just connect. Looking forward to being part of this community again.
