Hello from a super fresh rookie into REI!

Hey yall! Recently decided to pursue a career in property management, with the end goal of owning multifamily apartment complexes and hopefully some commercial properties as well!

Although I'm currently still applying for a job (the market is ROUGH), I've been slowly trying to see what it actually takes and means to own property! Would love any advice, insight, things you all wished you knew earlier! Eager to learn and grow!

How many of you guys work in the industry?? Thanks in advance!!

    Welcome @Timothy Shin! That鈥檚 a smart path to take.

    Getting into property management first will teach you a ton about how properties actually run, which is huge if you want to own multifamily later. A lot of people skip that part and learn the hard way.

    Market might be rough, but just stay close to it and keep networking. Even small opportunities can open doors. If you need financing assistance I would love to chat!

    Hey Timothy,

    I think your on the right track starting in property management is a great idea. The advice I would give is to focus on experience and building relationships, and think like an operator that builds systems! Hope that helps, feel free to reach out if you want any more tips!

    Hi @Timothy Shin, nice to meet you here on BP! I鈥檝e been a property manager and realtor on top of investing, and honestly that hands on experience is what teaches you the fastest. You start to see what actually makes properties perform, not just how they鈥檙e run. If you can, get into a role where you鈥檙e close to operations early. It鈥檒l give you a huge edge when you start owning deals yourself.

    Hey@Timothy Shin good to meet you. My partner built and ran multiple PM companies over the last few decades and has a handful of apartments in LA. Within our company however we invest out of state in larger multifamily. We're all here in SoCal so happy to connect if helpful.

    @Timothy Shin, Welcome!

    Property Management is a great way to get tired landlords to walk through the door.  You can always offer to manage their properties or take that property off of their hands.  

    Happy to help if you ever want to see what your loan numbers would look like on a particular property.

    Hey Timothy! That's exciting. It's something I sometimes wish I would have done. I ended up buying a property and going through the ringer for a while trying to figure out how to get it rented and all that once I was ready to move out haha. It's definitely a learning curve, nowadays I primarily use a rental company to actively manage. My main focus is primarily acquiring properties at this point to add to my portfolio and set myself up nicely for retirement.

       Hey Christian! Thanks for the encouragement and advice! I can't imagine how that must've been haha! When did you first buy property and how long did it take you to get more knowledgeable and comfortable with being an owner and all that comes with it?
