Hello Bigger Pockets! I'm Shamus Quirk, formally a professionally trained chef of ten years who decided I wanted out of the restaurant industry. I always knew there was a better way to accomplish my financial goals and I always knew real estate was going to be my main vehicle to get me to them. I got tired of eighty hour work weeks with little time to think about how I was going to get some “bigger pockets” so I got out of the business for a custom cabinet making job. During my transitional time I also got my Massachusetts real estate salesperson license. Since then I have been working with homeowners, investors and house flippers to make their financial dreams come true and now I want to focus on mine. I’m on a quest to learn as much as I can about real estate investing and take action!
I've been listening to bigger pockets podcasts for a couple of weeks now and it's always entertaining and informational. Thanks to Josh and Brandon for doing this and giving guys like me a chance

Hi Shamus, welcome to BP.
This is a great place to learn. Make sure to listen to all the BP podcasts, read the articles on the main blog and be active in these forums to learn a ton very quickly about any topic in real estate you want to know more about.
This is also a great place to meet people that can be assets to your business. Lots of great connections all over but we also have a very strong and active contingent here in MA on here so make sure to find them (Set up some keyword alerts to find out about local topics) and get connected.
Besides doing that on here make sure to get out to some of the many local investor events we have. Nothing right by you but lots of stuff relatively easy to get too on the North Shore in I think Peabody, Danvers and Saugus. A couple others up north the NEREIA in Chelmsford and a good new meeting in Nashua, NH. If you are up for a longer drive I highly recommend the Black Diamond meeting in Waltham. If you are really ambitious this months meeting is tonight.

I would love to have attended tonight, but I just saw this! I was busy showing houses and writing offers! Thanks for the heads up on the meetings.
Shaun Reilly, what type of rehabbing do you do in Newton? I recall seeing some RRE signs around.

Don't really do much around here, Newton and the close by towns are just to expensive and can't usually get my margins to work. I'd love to do a million dollar flip but hasn't worked out yet. :)
Don't really put up signs. Have them on my car and have had some stuff on a couple of projects. Otherwise you might see stuff online of when I am out at meetings.

What are you interested in doing? Flipping or holding rentals? You can set up keyword alerts to notify when your chosen topic gets posted about. Its a very helpful tool for finding relevant information.

Derreck, I'm interested in flipping and holding rentals. My focus is on adding value and taking advantage of the equity. I would like to start with a buy fix and hold multi family and eventually do some flips when it makes sense to build some capital.
How do you set these key words everyone is talking about? Thanks!
