Hello, my name is Josh and I'm a recent college grad in the 9 to 5 grind looking to invest myself into financial freedom. I live in Hamden, Connecticut and work in Stratford and am currently considering investing in a owner occupied multifamily home near work. I have no previous experience in Real Estate, but since I stumbled upon the Financial Freedom Online community and found BP I've been intrigued about it and want to learn as much as possible before jumping in. I'm here to meet likeminded people and explore the endless opportunities of real estate investing!

Welcome to BP. Your house hacking idea is possibly the best way to get started. I think there is a webinar on BP tonight that Brandon is doing that would be helpful to you. Also, check out the Education section of the BP site. Lots of great resources. I know several people who got their start this way. BTW, I have been a Stratford resident since 1983. Don't hesitate to reach out if you need help regarding neighborhoods, etc.

Hey Ed, I will be assisting the webinar! Also, thanks for the reply, I am just starting to scour the web for information. I'm currently renting and my lease is up in June. The goal would be to have something lined up by then. I'm new to Connecticut (from Puerto Rico) so I don't have a great idea of the areas and where exactly to look. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Wepa Boricua, I'm from Caguas, living in New London CT. I have my RE license and last month bought my first two family house, and yesterday signed a year lease. I'm a little far but if there's anything I can help you with, reach out.

Best of luck to you Josh. Great to see you are looking to get an early start in real estate investing. Utilize the many tools, resources and connections here on BP.
I am in a similar situation, looking to start out via "House Hacking" in northeastern Connecticut. I have been doing a bunch of research and listening to podcasts like crazy, and would be more than willing to share some of the information that I have learned. I am currently viewing multi families with a real estate agent, and am looking to purchase one this spring.
I have also started a monthly meet-up in Manchester, CT that has been extremely educational and beneficial to me, and the other attendees. Our next meeting is scheduled for March 5th at 1:00pm. Send me a message if you are interested in attending.

Check out the free BiggerPockets Podcast - A weekly podcast with interviews and a ton of great advice. And you get the benefit of having over 100 past ones to catch up on.
Locate and attend 3 different local REIA club meetings great place to meet people gather resources and info. Here you will meet wholesalers who provide deals and rehabbers (cash buyers). Find them through Google and meetup.com
Consider checking out HUD homes for small multi's owner occupied gets first crack.
You might consider Niche or Specialized Housing like student housing. Rents can be 2-4 times more. Remember you don't have to own a property to control it.
