Hey All,

I am new to real estate investment from a business perspective. Currently doing a lot of research about the vacation rental market in the Florida gulf coast area. Anyone have any experience in this area?

Start here. You'll get a wealth of REI knowledge and learn how to take full advantage of Bigger Pockets (including how to connect with other local investors).
Listen to the podcasts , get active on the forums & set up key word alerts to be notified when people are discussing topics you're interested in.
Check out the webinars, they are very informative, and there’s usually a new one every week.

Welcome. Doesn't have to be limited to vacation rentals. Have a buddy who rents out his parents in-law $200 a night 90% occupied. He will have his school loans paid off in no time. Fill in the foundation below.
Locate and attend 3 different local REIA club meetings great place to meet people gather resources and info. Here you will meet wholesalers who provide deals and rehabbers (cash buyers). You can Google to locate them and go to meetup.com
Two Great reads, I bought both J. Scott The Book on Flipping Houses, The Book on Estimating ReHab Costs http://www.biggerpockets.com/flippingbook
You might consider Niche or Specialized Housing like student housing. Rents can be 2-4 times more. Remember you don't have to own a property to control it.
