Newbie from San Diego, CA and headed to North Carolina

Hello all. I've been a Bigger Pockets fan since Jan last year. After sometime sitting on the sidelines I think its time to introduce myself and give a big shout out to all that have been a part of making Bigger Pockets the valuable resource that it is.

About me, I am currently in North County, San Diego. I'm a General Contractor who has been really wanting to get on the other side of real estate for way too long. I'm originally from the East Coast and will be packing my family (Hot Brazilian wife, and smartest 13 mo son ever) and moving to NC.  We will be settling in the Hickory, Lenoir area. We have tried to be strategic in our location to tap into Greensboro, Asheville, and Charlotte areas.

My wife and I welcome any feedback on these areas.

Our goals are geared towards our long term goal of 500 units in multi-family with at least $100 per door. We will be using our real estate platform to bring my wife's family to the US from Brazil. I have more questions regarding this which I will place in another post. We are planning to house-hack when we move and use some savings to do some flipping to fund some brrrr deals on some smaller mfr's and scale up from there.

I almost forgot this is just an introduction. I look forward to connecting with everyone on here and we're excited about this new chapter in our life.

Blessings from the Roebuck's,

Gil, Camila, and Clifton

@Gil Roebuck Welcome to BP! Welcome to NC!

Here are some resources I've enjoyed:

If you haven’t already listened to the podcasts I’d start there.

Podcasts

Episode 108 - Grant Cardone... Just listen…

Episode 283 Paul Thompson - Quite a new episode but I would think everyone would agree this is a top episode. Mainly, the systems implemented are fascinating (VA, automated offers, etc.) Plus...escape velocity...

Episode 113Jay Papasan - Very practical slow and steady advice

Episode 221 - Tim Shiner - his concept of equity build up and "shearing the sheep" shows some of the flexibility of real estate vs a 401k

Last but not least, I also recommend all the tax advice given by my fellow CPAs on the BP Podcast.

@Gil Roebuck Welcome to both Bigger Pockets and NC!  You will love it here.  Charlotte is a great place, but I think you will find that the Triad will work better if you are wanting to ramp up to big numbers.  Entry point is lower there, but whichever way you end up going, best of luck to you!

Would love to be some of the first to welcome you! We love our state and love real estate, so let us know when you're here and my wife and I would love to meet up for dinner!

@Gil Roebuck Hi Gil! I’ve actually just recently made the opposite move from Charlotte to San Diego. I have a couple of rentals in Charlotte and always scouting for more deals, although they are becoming harder and harder to come by. I’ve also used a couple of contractors out there and haven’t been satisfied with the communication and quality of work. Would you be interested in sharing some of your work and potentially partnering on a deal?

@Seth Bradley Hi Seth! Thanks for reaching out. I wish you the best in San Diego. I am always open for making to connections and expanding business relationships. I will keep you in mind when I come across deals. Let me know if there is a certain niche that you're interested in. Also, if I can be of any service on existing properties I'd be happy to take a look for you.

Hello! @Gil Roebuck

Welcome to BP, and congratulations on making the decision to invest in your future via real estate.

I have written a few blog posts that may help you get started here on BP, and with your investing. Please click on the links, give them a read, and share your thoughts in the comments.

First is a post that I feel will help not get overwhelmed with the amount of info that is here on BP:

The second is a post that will help get you focused with your real estate investing goals:

The last one is a post that will help you choose an “investor friendly” real estate agent. There are many agents out there, but it’s important to choose the right one.

I love answering questions if you have any! Good Luck :)
