New member in Spain moving back to states soon

Hello Bigger Pockets community! I'm Chris. I currently am living in the Costa de la Luz region of Spain, but I am soon moving back to the United States to Norfolk, Virginia. I'm originally from Dallas, Texas.

I currently own a condo in Hawaii I'm going to turn over soon after over 10 years of ownership. This was the second home I've purchased. I've rented it for 7 years now. I'm looking to get into multi-family properties like duplex, triplex, 4-plexes and possibly small apartment buildings. I've been entertaining getting into the Detroit market, but will also be buying a primary residence in Norfolk in the Ocean View area. I'm active duty military currently, and am retiring in the next 5 or so years and intend on working for myself owning multiple homes/apartments. I joined biggerpockets.com thanks to lots of Google search questions and research I've been doing on real estate and multi-family unit ownership. Looking forward to being a part of the community here!

@Melanie McDaniel . That's who you need to speak with. She is a realtor who works a great deal with investors and runs a Hampton roads investor's meet up once a month in VA Beach, and we have a small group of military investors that meet up separately to network, syndicate, and help each other out with our individual goals. The group is heavy on people getting into MF and even international REI. PM Melanie.

Thank you for the responses!!! Good to see the community is active here. Jonathan, I'm keen on the meet up when I get there. I will be out of the area frequently if you will, but am interested in networking and talking with people. Melanie, I will be back roughly in December, but I intend on stopping in Norfolk to do some shopping while I'm on my "holiday". I'm mostly assuming that you are going to be in my area of Spain. I'll PM you and we can chat a little....I have done some heavy looking on realtor.com and have some properties I'm moderately interested in already.

You will want to check out the Tidewater Real Estate Investors Group and the Hampton Roads Landlord Assoc too. Both are full of BP members and both offer tremendous education and networking opportunities.

Hello! @Chris Wampler

Welcome to BP, and congratulations on making the decision to invest in your future via real estate.

I have written a few blog posts that may help you get started here on BP, and with your investing. Please click on the links, give them a read, and share your thoughts in the comments.

First is a post that I feel will help not get overwhelmed with the amount of info that is here on BP:

The second is a post that will help get you focused with your real estate investing goals:

The last one is a post that will help you choose an “investor friendly” real estate agent. There are many agents out there, but it’s important to choose the right one.
