New To Real Estate in Washington State

Hey Everyone! I am starting my real estate journey after a few years of research on biggerpockets, different books, and podcasts. I am very excited to start house hacking with my family in the Tacoma area of Washington state. I have recently moved there and am learning all I can about the area. Welcome @Michael Stout! We lived in Tacoma for 4 years (Seattle now) and two of our closest friends own numerous properties in Proctor, the North End, and Hilltop. You're on the right track- we've grown our portfolio from nothing to 6+ properties by househacking, there's really no better way to get started!

There are still some good multi-families in Tacoma, and plenty of properties where you could add a MIL / ADU by finishing out a basement with its own entrance. If you go that route make sure to pay attention to the expensive stuff- plumbing location, presence of egress windows, and ceiling height.

Hi @Michael Stout! Welcome to BP and the Tacoma, WA area, and the world of real estate investing! Definitely look into househacking and/or a live in flip. It is one of the best ways to get started! My wife and I used a live in flip to help us get started and pay off all of our student loans.

We currently own and self manage several rentals in Tacoma, WA and are very familiar with the area! See you around the forums!

Congrats @Michael Stout and welcome to the Puget Sound! I live in the Auburn area with a co-working space in Tacoma. I'm down there all the time. Happy to connect and swap investing stories.
