New Investor in the Houston, TX Area

Hello Everyone,

I'm a brand new investor trying to get started in the Houston, TX and surrounding areas. I'm really looking for a way to connect to other investors who can help point me in the right direction. I've begun reading books, listening to podcasts and webinars (which easily influenced me to be a pro member), etc.  

I'm looking for any advice that will help me to better know my market, how to start finding deals, and how to begin without having a lot of cash to start off with. I am willing to work with and help other investors in any way I can.

    Go to top of your screen and click on NETWORKING then search for investor groups, meetups, or active investors in your area.

    @Christopher G. Welcome! Follow @Nathan Gesner's advice and go to meetup.com to search for local groups. 

    Then start rubbing elbows! There are a lot of real estate investors in Houston so you can find your niche fairly easily.

    @Christopher Gillis Local Houstonian, read a few books, gone to a few meets, and got my first property out of the way. Maybe a step or two in front of you. Their is so much to cover real estate wise so not sure if theirs any advice I can leave. But if you ever need a partner to keep each other on track(since consistency is one of the hardest parts), or need any help working out the numbers hit me up. 😀

    Hey Chris. I'm a native Kansas Citian and have enjoyed investing in Kansas City for over 15 years. I started with SFR's but now my focus is in the Multifamily space. I have a friend who is lives and invest in Houston so let me know if you'd like an introduction. By the way, Kansas City is a fantastic market and would love to connect further if you have some interest in the KC market. Cheers!

    Welcome Christopher, I recommend getting involved in several of the investment groups in town. Houston has a lot of investors and several willing to share. I also recommend finding a mentor to help you and hold your hand along the way. You will have to pay for one, find someone you can work for or find someone willing to coach you as you start.

    I started my career 20 years ago. I was only 19 no experience and no cash or credit to get started. I used some money I was suppose to go to college with and spent it on boot camps and mentor programs. One of the mentors continued to work with me and partner with me on deals. I used his experience to avoid mistakes. He would help with purchase costs and I would provide the leg work. It was a win/win and allowed me to get my start.

    This is a great place to learn and network. A lot of forum members are very knowledgeable in their respective fields related to real estate investing, whether that is real estate sales, wholesaling, flipping, rentals, lending, self-directed IRA and Solo 401k investing, or tax and legal guidance.
