New investor in New York looking to make connections

Hello all, 

My name is Jack Goncalves located on Long Island, New York looking to get my feet wet in real estate investing. I have been doing research and learning more and more about the field everyday, however, it would be great to hear from some pros before I jump in on buying my first property. I am 22 years old working as a marketing and sales representative for one of the worlds largest power tool manufacturers. My main goal in real estate is to begin to make another steady stream of income, so that I can untimely focus more of my time on my own real estate business rather then my day to day work. How I found this platform is through a webinar that I viewed from biggerpockets and was really happy to find so many like minded individuals in the pursuit of similar goals. Connections in any business is paramount, and I would love to meet anyone who is willing to share what has helped them get started and made them successful in this business.
