I've been wondering lately if the American people would rise up and fight for ANYTHING? My personal opinion is that the American people would give up every single right they have (including their property) and become virtual slaves to a socialist/communist/fascist government without any fight whatsoever (or has that ship already sailed).
Is there ANYTHING that YOU would fight for? Anything at all?

For full disclosure, I did not read the entire thread..... Politics gets boring. Too many viewpoints, not much in the way of facts
here are some facts
As a young man I served in the USMC. I was an infantryman in Desert Storm. We were ordered to go out and do terriable things to young men just like ourselves, it was our duty. We all took the oath. We all wanted to be there.
In the name of my wife and children, I would do much worse to any involved, with a smile on my face......
I know a Vietnam jarhead, he was with 1/9, the walking dead. Those guys know what a bad day really is.
We spoke about Mrs Neopalatiano and her singleing out of Vet's as a threat.
His comment was. " that is the only person in DC that understands what a threat is", LOL
We are blessd as a country. Go to the Westbank and ask this question.

The problem is that the government is no longer afraid of the people. Americans overall tend to be content with their current state of being. No one wants to step out because it would be "politically incorrect" or be labeled an anarchist or whatever. The gov through its laws are slowly passifying the masses until we are just like a herd of cows.

I like to think I would fight fire with fire: my vote against corrupt politics, my money to worthy causes, and so forth.
It's also easy to picture my gun against the home invader or armed robber threatening myself or my family.
Black and white is easy.
But instead of the Jew next door getting carted off to the gas chamber, what if it was the child molester next door? Or how about the murderer who got freed on a legal technicality?
The less black and white the issue, the slicker the slope.

Okay, clear enough...
To what degree is each thing worth fighting is the question I was answering, and in my mind, it's a much more important question than the one you asked...but you're obviously not interested in that question...
So, here is the answer to the question you are fixated on:
Yes, for me personally, everything I believe in is worth fighting for.
Obviously, I wouldn't fight equally hard for each thing I believe in, but again, that's apparently not what you're asking.

Let me give this a go.
YES! There are things worth fighting (and risking your life) for. I would fight if our freedoms and rights start to be taken away. For example, if the government decided that we no longer had the freedom of speech or assembly, that would be worth fighting for! If the government decided that we no longer had the right to keep and bear arms - that would be worth fighting for. If the government decided that all Christians, Jews, or Muslims were to be taken to concentration camps to be exterminated, that would be worth fighting for.
Thankfully, our forefathers were willing to fight (and die) for their freedom! I'm not so sure about people today!

The checks and balances of our three branches of Government protect our constitutional rights, although it can seem like legislative laws with huge government spending ,enacted during bad times, erode our rights and privileges; but, we can always elect new leaders and go another direction, hence the wisdom of our founding fathers. I don't think the sky is falling yet. It takes tough times to make tough people. We've had things too good.

Here are some of the freedoms taken away since 9/11 under the former administration (compiled by the Associated Press):

Gathering intelligence does not take away the freeom of association. If the government were to pass a law that said 3 muslims talking were a crime, that would be a violation of the freedom of association.

Impeding an investigation has always been a crime as far as I know.
Illegal enemy combatants do not have the right to an attorney, nor are they protected by the Geneva Convention.
What makes you think they are unreasonable searches?
Illegal enemy combatants doe not have the right to a trial. In fact, they can legally be executed without a trial.

Illegal enemy combatants do not have rights.
I think the government has done an excellent job in the war on terror. Almost without exception, they are not detaining innocent citizens or violating our rights.
We have REAL problems without trying to invent violations of our rights in a military conflict.

Unfortunately, your entire post above is evidence of the reason why so many people in this country are complacent about our liberties being taken away from us...
They don't even realize it's happening.
Too many people would have no idea anything is going on until they are told flat-out that they are no-longer free to speak their mind, or until they see their neighbor hauled off to a labor camp because of his heritage or faith.
They are oblivious to the incremental limitations of our freedom, and don't recognize the signs until it's too late.
It's actually pretty scary. When intelligent people can't recognize it (and even try to justify it), that doesn't bode well for the average citizen.
Unfortunately, by the time you recognize (or chose to acknowledge) the signs, it will be much too late...

I don't think the average American really understands what a terrorist is.
I don't think most people even know why we are at war.
I find this disturbing. People are more likely to believe underground rumours from the internet (intentionally from the enemy, and supported by our own people) because they have never looked into what is going on over there, what the missions are, and who the enemy is. People have vague notions that make no sense and no wonder they don't get it.

Im more concerned with the guys who govern the rights of our own health, and well being. if you want to fight someone, fight the fda. just don't mention the word "cure", or your rights no longer exist.

might I add that some people wouldn't fight because that's where they buy and sell their illegal drugs and weapons. or because they fear violence in an irrational way. or because they don't understand the conflicts. or they are in denial.

What I meant by that is if you were in a management position of a country you have to oversee all areas that affect your country. You can't ignore national defense altogether, or the economy, or anything else, you have to manage and oversee them all.
If your government can't deal with the financial crisis or any other area, then they are incompetent and need to be replaced. There are 300 million Americans, I am sure at least one of them could do a good job. Unless people don't care and are too lazy. I write the White House frequently and I am Canadian. I don't believe in excuses.
No offense to Obama but he would not have been my first pick to fix the USA economy. Palin would have been. I don't care if you're running a family or a country, money and math are a basic science, and if Obama can't handle it, and people believe all his BS, then you have other issues than just incompetence. That's why I speak out all the time. If people are educated they can't be fooled.
Math is a linear science. You don't fix an economy with more spending and more debt any more than you fix your own finances that way.

As far as I recall, Bill Clinton is the only president in recent history to exterminate religious groups. It does beg the question though - is this extended to cultists?

I already wrote the White House about the issue of food control and I'm on their mailing list now. I own an agricultural business in Canada now. See my website for my views on food and self-sufficiency.
As far as the health care system it is being revised. It shouldn't cost much imo what with modern technology. In fact almost nothing should cost what it does if things were streamlined to keep up with the times.

I would fight for freedom of speech, the right to keep and bear arms, my family, and our lives.
Mike, I think American people could easily become slaves to our government and Obama and his radical left wing buddies in Congress have every intent on taking as much of our freedom as they can.
How about the "Fairness Doctrine"? I will fight to make sure that does not get passed.
